Hey guys i think we can all agree you shouldn’t be working with hydrocarbons unless you can afford the equipment to safely handle them . Hit up @Killa12345 for the best deals I’ve ever seen for safe reliable equipment. If you can’t afford the bare minimum then i can not give you any safe advice or input . Everyone has to experiment and start somewhere but i can not condone open blasting . Not trying to be a hater i respect you guys its just not worth the risk and price of loosing solvent . Please be safe !!! It gives the industry a bad rep . Use ethanol its not explosive and is cheaper and can be extinguished with plain water . Much easier to set up a safe environment and your not destroying the ozone as bad ! Much love guys just be safe !
I don’t recommend open blasting. But with that being said I did it for close to 8 years straight (before I got a cls) If you know what your doing open blasting isn’t that dangerous. Also I’m pretty sure butane doesn’t deplete ozone
Do it outside, away from anything with a spark. Especially friends with joints.
If you can’t figure out how to safely open blast with a $40 budget then you don’t belong in my lab
For sureeee. Hydro carbons love diamonds. I run a iso n tane mix at home and we run a mixed bag at work iso, n, propane
Oh I’m not encouraging open blasting but when I started making shatter there was no such thing as CLS.
Obviously do it outside or not at all. Again I’ve been at this a while I’m not suggesting it if you have safer options. Closed column was just my next step to get to a CLS. And in the legal industry we obviously never open blast. Just be smart. Be safe.
O yeah diamonds is the one thing I was awesome at w open blasting, that looks great!
How would you vacuum down your system if pouring solvent into tank for recovery?
Are you asking if you open blasted and tried to recover the solvent?
Safest way would be to put tank of open blasted solution on dry ice. Keep the valve to atmosphere open while you clamp down the lid. Once solution is dry ice temps, vac down from that same valve that is open for 10 seconds or so. Keep a gas detector near the exhaust of your pump. Once vac’d close valve and then you’re good
If you were in a C1D1 environment with fume hoods go for it open blast . I’m just not into dumping solvent . Even outside it can be dangerous . Again im not trying to hate you can do it for 10 years and be fine . Its the bad rep it gives our industry if you want to earn that rep go for it ! Its extremely hard to control static electricity and thats the one scary variable. If your doing micro extraction for sampling for pesticides/ testing use acetone , ethanol , or iso.
@Apothecary36 the negatives for me outweigh the positives . I respect you I’ve followed your work for a while on here ! There’s just many safer alternatives i could recommend on a 40$ budget like the bucket tek . You could go into the middle of a flat field with no trees ,no fire hazards, no ignition sources , high humidity , and butt ass naked and grounded . I would still not recommend it not even in a theoretical c1d1 environment. To each his own !
I appreciate you
Its all love especially since y’all are advocating safety so how can I argue lol
What you can do with open blast that you can’t do with a CLS is throw it in the gutter and go buy another
Doesn’t make sense this comment? Explain
I pack all my material buried in dry ice for each run just as I use to do open blastin
i think he may be referring to packing dry ice in the column with the material in an open blast situation. We know if this was done in a CLS it would raise the pressures to dangerous levels, but in an open environment you will just have a rocket waiting to go off I’d guess
If that’s case is he joking
Please don’t tell ppl to do that
I missed you said pack dry ice in an open blast, I thought you said in a cls.
But still, bad idea I’d say
Burry open blast column in cooler dry ice covered for several hrs, done and safer.
Run almost dry ice cold solvent …
Seriously though. I’ve seen people in these forums questioning if it’d be safe before. Eventually someone would probably try it. [quote=“StoneD, post:287, topic:39924”]
Please don’t tell ppl to do that

Never did I tell anyone to do that. I don’t tell anyone to do anything, nor do I do shit people tell me to do.
