Hey guys, I’m curious of how to get this working.
As for my research im heading into the Buchner funneln method. Which will be somerhing like.
EQUIPMENT:
- Buchner funnel (100ml)
- Vacuum flask (1000ml)
- Vacuum pump (not quite sure of pressure)
- 2.5 micron paper (it may work with a unbleashed coffe filter as well)
INGREDIENTS:
- Activated carbon (food grade)
- Diatomaceous earth (food grade)
- Crude oil (rso in aceton solution)
Have not really any clue of which ratios of the AC and Diatomaceous earth that will be used, just saw a video somewhere that were using it.
Well I would like to still have the waxes, but as far I know the RSO (crude oil) will need to be winterized before hand, which would get it unwaxed?
Have seen that the ratio between alcohol and the crude oil should being 15:1
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Why are you doing color remediation on RSO? And why did you use acetone? Just not sure what your ideal outcome is for this stuff.

Thank you for your reply. Well acetone is the easiest one to get my hands on unfortunately.
It will be used for my custom hash blend for my personal use, just want to make it a little bit more fun I guess. But I want it to look a bit more appealing
Well not quite sure of the analysis. But it will probably make me high in either way I believe heh
It’s a small batch so not quite sure if it need to be that precise.
Recover the acetone and dilute the extract into a non polar solvent (pentane). Then color remediate with bentonite clay of your choosing.
I’ve done exactly this before and was able to make diamonds overnight with it.

Thank you for your reply.
Well there is a bit hard to find pentane over here though
do you have any idea of how strong pump that is required for the Buchner funnel?
Yeah for sure
but kinda sure the effect will not lie either way heh
But if it were for lika a commercial product I would have taken that path.

I used a column of media and pushed it with nitrogen, so I can’t speak to how strong of a vacuum you’d need, but given pentanes explosive nature I wouldn’t use a vacuum

Heptane might make more sense for someone unequipped to deal with pentane vapors

Most people these days use acetone, isopropanol or ethanol to make RSO
I think rick himself used some horrible shit like naphtha distilled from gasoline (see comment above) but that is just asking for trouble

Acetone is great and works on bentonite directly if DRY
Is a good winterization solvent as well
Yust don t have hydrogen peroxide in the lab to make mistakes

Ethanol and ISO are “normal” solvents for RSO in my market, but I’ve never encountered an acetone RSO. If OP isn’t set on using acetone, which is too harsh for this application IMO, and assuming it’s just for personal use, I would suggest that they buy everclear or whatever high proof liquor they can get their hands on, proof it up if needed, and see what kind of results it gets. I would not carbon scrub RSO, or color remediate it in any way- Carbon is going to remove a non-trivial amount of plant fats which may subtract from the products efficacy. Carbon will also scrub out some of the cannabinoids, reduce potency, and it’s going to be somewhat challenging to filter out carbon fines if OP does not have a lab/proper equipment.
I personally think that trying to color correct RSO by column chromatography is going to be a mess that is going to trash the column and reduce the potency of the final product!
Also @roguelab brings up a good safety point, acetone should be kept FAR away from any oxidizing agent or source of ignition!

Acetone and hydrogen peroxide make TATP which is particularly bad
Was actually thinking about to do winterization and seperste the wax/lipids and then readd it after the color remediation.
Will keep that in mind for sure, thank you guys
So could I go for cold aceton for winterization?
Like cold alcohol and run it through a unbleashed coffee filter?
