Pretty well for the times… 3-4 years ago. I have pics on my instagram of us injecting at -25C.
Probably could have gotten colder of we had the proper controls. BP of 404a is -40ish I think, so a tighter txv and/or a lower overall charge would’ve gotten us there, provided condenser size wasn’t the limiting factor. It was a very fun and satisfying hack. We used that system for probably 2 years before we went to a px1 hybrid system.

HyperspacePirate is the shit. This man is making his own ethylene from ethanol so he doesn’t have to get a refrigerant handling license (or pay for it). Hooks that to a beachball to collect pure gas, then hooks a fridge compressor to a tank and stores it. Absolute maniac.

This also seems the most useful for more confined spaces having the condenser outside and the reservoir and pump inside.
I think these would be pretty cool to see on the market with kits similar to the diy mini splits. There probably isn’t really a big market for them though
