Caffeine is an alkaloid substance, it’s also polar so it’s not going to move in a non polar solvent. The oils will, and maybe they contain some caffeine, but again, not much considering the difference between polar and non polar molecules.
What’s the Swiss water process to remove caffeine?
You can sublime caffeine out of the beans/grounds. That’s how some decaf is created.
industrially it’s done via sCO2 extraction
I actually did a deep dive into coffee, pretty sure that’s where you cold water extract the beans, and dry them, remove the caffeine with carbon and rehydrate the beans with the bean tea, then roast the coffee. There were some pretty nasty ways they used to pull the caffeine from the bean, but those aren’t used anymore.
Oh yeah, alkaloids are weird drugs.
Yeah, sublimation probably isn’t the most efficient extraction method. But is definitely “a” technique for caffeine extraction. We’re going to do some caffeine sublimation and see how it goes.
You actually carbonate the coffe itself with the n2. It comes out of the tap like a Guinness.
where do i place my folgers…
Don’t forget the eternal screams of intimidation and testosterone-fueled rage.
Amateurs.
yeah gales rig; while a beautiful set piece and excellent character writing, is completely hollywood, wouldnt do diddly squat, that silvered column is a distillation column, and a nice one i might add; it aint doing shit but looking pretty in that set up.
like lol, the vacuum pump is hooked up to the condenser, which is hooked up to the “boiling flask”, active vacuum jacket ftw
the apperatus on the top of the condenser is for depositing solvents for TLC
$200k CO2 machine, uses it to make coffee…
How very American…
100% Hollywood. Going to make a cool rig with the extra glass parts and reflux condensers I have at the shop.
No doubt theres a coffee thread on here hahah! If there is any community that can take proven concepts and iron out an effective system, its this one.
who cares about clear coffee if its garbage… it all starts with the roast.
Ill just leave this here for everyone to play with…
Vacuum roasting anaerobically fermented beans… its a thing that does stuff and such.
connect with the coffee heads and they’ll “drop the beans” on innovation in that world.
pretty sure freeze dried sultana’s are coming up next hahaha
