Hey everybody, new guy here. I have been in the processing room of this company in south dakota for only a couple months now.
I am in the process on making shatter concentrates and have ran into a slight problem. I have 4 sheets on brown parchment paper. I got through the muffing process and let them sit under vac for roughly 16 hours. It looks like shatter but is so sticky i connot get it off the parchment paper nicely to flip.
Ive tried putting new parchment out and flipping the one with concentrate over, on top and press and peel. Even after putting back in the oven for 10-15 min it still wouldnt transfer.
Next i tried leaving it in the freezer and flipping it that way. As soon as i touch the material it gets super soft and started folding on its self and made a huge mess.
Im not sure whats wrong and why its so difficult to flip. So i put the other three trays back in the oven and put them under vac. Now im just trying to figure it out before i start messing with it again.
The material ran was fresh frozen, through a CLS and a small amount of crc.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Ive posted pictures so the consistency can be seen
100% only use dry cured material for shatter. You still might run into terpene heavy strains that will be hard to flip, but way more manageable than you have here with FF. Gl!
Awesome, thank you! I guess now a new question? What do i do with this material? Its definitly a pull and stick material. But with it being so hard to work with im not sure the effort to gram it out is worth the labor cost.
Pull off former bottom layer which is now new top layer
If it’s still to sticky throw the whole cookie sheet parchment combo in a deep freeze for a sec. Make sure you aren’t in a humid room while doing this or you will get water condensation on slab which promotes sugaring
Or just twist and whip the whole thang into batter
Live resin shatter likes to nucleate and sugar out due to terps evaporating and creating a super saturation in the solution and the THCA staring to connect and crystallize ( absolutely non scientific explanation)
Thanks for all the replies! I think im gonna let it nucleate and turn it into some batter. Im going to lose to much turning into an oil. I still have to work around the buisiness aspect while learning to create different final product.
In the future, when you have no choice but to use fresh frozen to produce shatter you can separate your thca and terpene fraction, reformulate, and repour at a better ratio.
I guess im not familiar with a process like that. We use a table top centrifuge to spereate terpenes and thca. But ive only ever done that to make oil for cart material.
Any chance you could explain?
Rather than remove your excess “terpenes” by sucking on your erstwhile slab for days and days, you remove them in the fuge…then melt your thca and some of your hte (25%?) in your vac oven…from there, proceed as normal
I’m gonna back pedal here: the melting temp and decarb temp are very close to each other, and you don’t want to decarb at all. Rereading @GCFFiltration’s comment, they are suggesting bringing your thca and some of that hte fraction up in fresh solvent (butane), then pouring.
