Let’s talk purging if we can of Badder/butter. Experimented at 75f and went 3 days at 20in of vac. Residuals still sitting above where I want. Went ahead and tried old SOP and started at 100f with 15in then moved to 20in of vac for total of 3 days. Better results with higher temp but my color darkened… any tips of keeping my nice light color and not losing those light terps inhad before the higher temp purge?
Also wondering if extensive whipping is sufficient or if a vac purge is always recommended for badder as well?
You shouldn’t have to use any vac at all to get below 500ppm to N/D.
Unless we’re doing it drastically differently, we’ve always had to vac purge to get below state action limits(800ppm) especially for live badder. We do a cold purge ~55F under full vac. We clean our cold trap monthly and get a few mls of terps over the course of purging thousands of grams.
I’ve only been in one physical location in my career that I needed to pull vacuum. Everywhere else in the state, and across the country I have had little to zero issues, including live resin.
Is it done in the same time frame you describe above, no. But, I also wasn’t trying to imply that.
my test results after whip, overnight cure and rewhip was about 2200ppm, I am thinking I need to take it longer in the pan before transferring to jars. I like to go till I see a break in the pour (starts to look like cement pouring and not a smooth stream), put it in the jars for a few turns, once im happy I let it sit over night, capped at 100 then re-whip the net day to final consistency. Any tips beyond this SOP, always open ears
I made badder once by whipping/stirring for several hours after pour off. It was my first time and I had not seen @dredpirate method at that point. I had read that I may get away with no vacuum purging of solvents, so we tested several days later. It came back at 11,000 ppm or 1.1% n-butane, purged it for a couple hours in a ~80F vac oven and got under the state limit of 5000 ppm.
am i in a right place?
No, you’re doomed.
Looks too dry for something destined to be badder; or you let too much evaporate during the process. Also, the first video looks like you’re allowing too large of crystals to form, leading to a drier sugar rather than a badder.
Care to share how you got to this point? Temp? Duration of whipping? Intervals? Vacuum?
There are tricks to whipping drier strains, and ways to salvage what you have, although it’s difficult with your current batch size.
First, I purged the BHO in a vacuum for 24 hours at 38–39°C and -780 mmHg. Once no bubbles remained on the shatter, I started heating and mixing the shatter in a glass bottle. I continued this process until I achieved the desired result, as shared.
The temperature while mixing the shatter was around 50–60°C, using a hair dryer on a low heat setting
Big mistake, unfortunately. Vac should come last with badder, if at all. You pulled all the terps you needed before you even started whipping. You want to whip right after you pour and reach your desired consistency before purging.
You’re also pulling a deeper vacuum than needed and running your temp a bit too high. A precision vacuum gauge would be wise.
Try a slide warmer, or even a heating pad and reduce temp to 30°C or lower.
If you whip too much, you’ll end up with crumble/powder. If you don’t whip enough or too slow, you’ll get sugar. Too slow allows crystals to grow, and too much dries it out. If it looks like it’s starting to sugar, you need to whip faster or not wait as long between whipping. If it’s getting too dry, you need to slow down in the future and wait longer between whipping towards the end to see if it sets up on its own.

All right! thank you for the information.
A question came to my mind, what can these two products be called?
The first one is dried sugar?
