Anyone using a crystallization reactor?

I have an alternative use and wanted to see what someone thought.

What are you using under the unit to capture the crystalized material?
Do you have photos or video of the unit in use?

What temps are you using to crash out? What are you crashing out? What solvent?

What’s your alternative use? Can’t really tell you what we think if you don’t tell us what you’re doing.

Every isolation setup being sold is a reactor with a filter column after it. Currently everyone is either pumping into bags for easy removal or directly onto a sintered disc and manually removing the contents after the fact. I think I saw one person pushing onto a lenticular even.

Crash temps seem to be recommended at -20°C by most companies, but I think you’ll find that doesn’t always work out. Since they are designed to operate in-line everyone is running them with low boiling point alkanes.

There are so many more uses for reactors in our industry, and some facilities are quietly upgrading to take advantage of that.

I have an active in hexane and my hope is to run a 21kw chiller at -80c into the reactor first and daisy chain to the evaporator.

Pull vacuum and simultaneously evaporate some hexane to super saturated faster before the crashing begins. Eventually the seed will be established and I can kill the vacuum and pull the mixing paddles out of my solution.

At the end. I need a clean way to capture the isolate after draining off the solvent.

I don’t see why not, that’s a lot of cooling power for a reactor that’s just precipitating and not combating an actual chemical reaction’s heat generation.

At a certain point as you get colder you’ll stop reducing your solution by very much since it won’t readily evaporate at mild vacuum.

I ended up meeting some guys that make crystallizers and decided to give them my money instead of china. prob not as fast as the way i wanted to go but the clean up seems so much better.

What do you prefer about the cleanup? Kinda seems like their using the same method most companies have been offering for a while now.

well the chinese glass reactor was a terrible design by comparison.

For sure. Stainless steel is definitely the more durable method, of course there are a lot of those on the market from China too, but you said cleanup seemed easier. Did you mean removing the product or cleaning the equipment?

by removing product. i know lots of options exist, these guys seemed chill, hard working, local enough i can buy them lunch or create chaos in front of their shop (unlikely)

I think they are offering the cheapest version of the @ChangMinXD isolator type crystallization skids. So there’s that at least.

not super local but in the la area. quick plane ride down as long as the weather is nice.

No dabs for me…. but ill bring a dmt pen :wink:

If you’re in LA you might want to reach out to Xtractor Depot and see what they can do. Same setup, but with more rnd behind it, gauranteed.

Seems like they have it under construction right now. Their landing page needs some love, I think last week it was just highlighting the Oklahoma location, but they definitely put more behind their listing’s.

Xtractor Depot is in LA, doesn’t get much more local to LA area than LA.
