Beaver Butt-Juice: Sodas
Yes, it’s pretty effin’ weird that one of the things that makes artificial raspberry flavoring in sodas and candy taste raspberry-y is castoreum, something that is exuded from a beaver’s anal glands. What’s even weirder is that this discovery was the result of somebody venturing to taste a beaver’s anal gland secretions.
Lol okay won’t be making raspberry distillate any time in the near future. But I’m not even talking about bringing non-cannabis derived terps into the equation, just adding terpenes that I didn’t personally derive
I mistook Gold Coast terpenes as a shitty fake terp company, which they are NOT.
You could absolutely put another type of terpene with the thca, but at what point is that cost effective? Those terps are expensive as hell. Especially when mixing it into a large amount of thca…
Yeah definitely not my ideal circumstance, or a long term solution. I just got some shatter that came out like this (it’s second run dry trim, after the first run only yielded 3.5%. solvent was ~-35 degrees, with a decent soak but empty dewaxing jacket), and i want to be able to provide to my customers something that’s more enjoyable. So instead of turning it into edibles, I’m gonna experiment with mechanical separation and EXOGENOUS terps
Understandable. Only reason I did is because the first run yielded 3%, seemed like I was wasting quite a bit. Also trying to learn here, so more runs/more material to work with the better. That second lap on the trim was my third time ever running
Would anybody be interested in consulting me on centrifugal mechanical separation? Put 5g of pull n snap in the centrifuge for 2hr @4k rpm, with no crystalization
Botanical terps are no where near as desirable as Cannabis derived terps. If they are high quality botanical terps (LMAO there are a few out there) I personally don’t see a MORAL dilemma but rather a desire dilemma. I have done experiments with adding terps to products and unless your extract already has a strong gassy flavor it’s just gonna taste weird… Especially if consumers are dabbing at high temps. I have smelled concentrates and can instantly tell if botanical terps were added, its just not a natural flavor and makes the concentrate taste like fake perfume wax. I have seen manya badders that have an overbearing fake lemon, pine or fruit scent to it and it tastes like someone spilled vape juice on their wax, but not in a good way
No. I have tried them and they are like floraplex, mixtures of alpha pinene, limonene mycrene and other standard terps. It ends up smelling more like an essential oil or maybe even weird candy than anything cannabis related. I have yet to try any kind of botanical terp that actually smells gassy and skunky
Shit, for some reason I was under the impression they were cannabis derived. Seems like there’s a gap in the market if no one’s selling cannabis derived terpenes with little to no thc content…
They’re around… but it’s looking to me like the process is expensive and the market to be niche, considering one can easily purchase ready made product in a store there is little room for home craft. That’s my opinion though - I’m not even from the US.
