Im needing a lab near the Oregon area to winterize and isolate CBD distillate. We are currently quoted prices at 85$ per output kg produced. We have an input of 250-500kg of non winterized distillate ready for the production of isolate ready every week. Please contact me PM or phone 520-401-8059
Thats a bummer it needs winterized. This essentially requires someone with hydro carbon winterization capabilities (membranes) or the more likely route requires a 2 solvent step to winterize in an alcohol then recover solvent and then make your isolate in your alkane.
Who distills before winterizing anyways??
I think 85 per kilo is fair since it requires a lot more steps than your standard distillate to isolate runs.
Correct and I distill it
Ever tried?
No I actually haven’t. Do you recommend it over the alternative? I can’t think of many reasons why I would want to.
From bulk CO2 extraction we process non winterized crude to distillate prior to winterization due to the amount of garbage pulled during extraction. At our volume it’s easier to filter the distillate and we also have a line of finished goods that are non winterized for various vitamin and supplement companies that prefer non winterized products.
Thanks for the explanation!
Exactly.
Exactly. Capacity is the big reason. We do bho crude, decarb and then distill on the 2-stage. That produces “waxy distillate”, still around 85% THC (90% total cannabinoids). This is great for edibles, topicals, and even dabs (more spectrum than winterized oil).
The other thing is that the waxy distillate doesn’t require any ethanol nor recovery! HUGE time and $ saver, if it’ll work for the end-product. And, when we do winterize, it’s much easier & faster b/c most of the bullshit has been distilled out, and we typically see 5% loss when winterizing the “waxy distillate”.
Lastly, our loss during winterizing has been reduced dramatically… exactly because we get all the bullshit out of the way on that first distillation, thus avoiding much of the loss that typically occurs during winterizing.
If you’re not winterizing your crude you’ll probably have slightly higher cannabinoid losses into your heads and tails fractions. However you’re going to be dealing with significantly less volume.
I find color is a bit more of an issue when you winterize between passes (more reds come in), but i would say it saves time in the end.
@Kingofthekush420 you could do this, maybe!
Very interesting on the color, thank you, we’re going to split some batches and test that out.
We saw significant increase in retention when going from crude → distillate when we distilled first, then winterized and distilled again.
Are you distilling on a SPD or wiper?
