I was wondering about freeze drying for the purposes of water content, and seeing water in plant material is undesirable I’m curious if you, or anyone really, has seen any difference one way or another with fresh frozen vs freeze dried

Lustermax or w1 would be way better and b80 for shatter. Warning wouldn’t use any these w out prefilters and lots of em…even submicron filter im getting soon…thats the next step submicron and another 3x36 open jacket
I have a big Harvest Right freeze dryer. It was a waste of money and time. It won’t hold enough to make a full run with and it takes 24-48 hours to run. I’d have to start freeze drying 2-3 weeks ahead of time.
Plus, freeze drying absolutely sucks at curing cannabis. A third of the terpenes are carried off with the sublimating water. We had a CryoCure machine and sold it for the same reason. We kept collecting pounds of terpene ice from the cold trap. Once thawed in the separatory funnel, it was a third terpene oils. If we wanted to make terpenes, it would do it. That wasn’t what we were going for. We wanted them to stay in the flower. IMO when it comes to proper curing for shelf-quality, there is no substitute for a slow hang, or hand trimming.

Did you run the freeze dried material into live resin? How did the water content compare?

I’ve always heard freeze dried weed didn’t smell good
For me it was 60rh and 60° for around 5-7 days. Usually it’s like 10-14 for totally dry. But I prefer half dried material over cured or live. No tiny yields like with live resin and still has a lot more terps

I like to get it the next day or the day after. So it isn’t so loaded with moisture and still comes out like FF. Better yields than regular FF and pretty much same terps

Ya like say someone gave you FF. Would you personally ever take it and dry it for a day or two like you prefer. Haha sorry just broke a two week tolerance break and I’m blown
Today is day 5. Dry ice arrives at 3. I’ll start freezing tonight and blasting tomorrow. It’s been in the 50srh at 62* since Thursday. I’m excited to see what happens.
Yeah i did some data a few years ago on freezing directly, vs drying for 12hr 24, or 48hrs then freezing, and i was a fan of the 24 hour dry stuff, less water weight, similar terps.
