Who sold my contact info to MCNutraceuticals and why are they cold calling and texting my cell phone?

Did you guys put in your phone number somewhere on your profile here?

Never for anything public

Never

So the only time you’ve given me your number was on a piece of paper that was burned a few hours later?

Unless eventbrite required it for the Vegas party, yea

Makes me wonder who else has our data if nobody knows how it was sourced.

Fact is, it’s out there and being used for marketing purposes.

Most glg vendors like me have the list I’d imagine. Used to confirm membership for discount purposes.

We have a newsletter sign up on our site with several thousand sign ups. We never emailed anyone ever. We’ve purged that database in the past.

Some of these guys take this so serious. We are in the weed game.

See, and that’s totally valid to me. What good is having a group that offers discounts if there’s no checks and balances to it. Ultimately it would make vendors lose hella money if everyone goes ‘HEY I’M GLG DON’T WORRY I GOT A NEW EMAIL’

We would never upload that list to mail chimp and hit you guys up with spam mail even though it’s a few pennies and no effort.

I fucking hate spam mail. Why would I want to contribute to something I hate. :man_facepalming:t3:

These guys must enjoy spending time clearing and unsubscribing to spam.

Can’t you spoof emails, I remember I got an email from “myself” once

Yes but 99% of the time it doesn’t work on widely used providers

Figures It was hotmail, those guys sucks from past experiences.

Around this time of year, we typically get 3-5 emails a day from people trying to sell cannabis-related contact lists. MJBiz alone has about 30-40 vendors every year offering contacts for all the attendees. While many of these lists are likely bullshit, they’re definitely out there.

If you’ve ever given your number or email to any of these conference companies, chances are they’re monetizing your data. Connecting to trade show Wi-Fi also gives them enough info to include you in their databases. As exhibitors, we’re constantly getting offers for these types of “marketing solutions” related to trade shows.

ETS has never used geofencing or similar methods for lead gen. But if you’re a VC or PE-backed company, you’re probably seeing this kind of lead gen being used regularly.

See what I mean about the WKU style reselling, don’t give that guy any new ideas now.

Interesting - I’ve only been there once and I was wearing someone else’s badge/never signed up for anything including the wifi there but that’s a damn good point.

Hell, now that I think about it most conferences I’ve went to i’ve been someone else, haha.
