These pneumatic pumps or pneumatic pumps in general?
There’s no mitigating the fluctuation in pressures? (assuming that’s the issue?)

He needs a pressure dampener on there too
I was watching the psi jump around between a 100 psi difference based on where the pump was in rotation and that was live on IG on the x spiral skid
Nope, this is why we don’t use pneumatic valves
They’ll always fluctuate a little
Another thing
Why did he use a copper braized heat exchanger?
The alfa laval all SS one I use is only like 1k
Not trying to be a dick but ppl cut corners in all the wrong places
Pressure dampers and regulators can’t mitigate these issues to at least make them serviceable? Are you saying the X-spirals are fundamentally flawed or just that they aren’t as optimized as skids driven by electric?
Sorry - I’m selfishly trying to figure out whether I should bother with attempting to rig my microfluidizer pump to fuck around with a couple housing.
First of all, the pneumatic does include dampeners and I have been in the process of doing field upgrades to the earliest ones that didn’t, at no expense to the customers.
Happily provide all cut sheets to anyone who wants them, DM me.
Also in response to the queries from the many many people who wanted a smaller unit, a new budget unit smaller than the 2.5 will be debuted soon.
Only the 2.5 ever had a pneumatic version (and it also has an electric version) – the larger sizes have always been electric.
Pressure dampeners will only do so much, it can’t mitigate that high T a pressure spike
Figure it this way, I had the seals go bad in one of my test pumps and it did a 20 psi swing and caused my membranes to foul
Pressure spikes inherently foul your membranes, there’s nothing you can do about it if its too great.
Pressure and temperature control size of the pore
When the Pressure spikes it forces stuff into the membrane matrix as the membrane closes and locks it in there
So you release untested equipment to your customers and let them do the R and D?
Werent you knocking companies that did this a while ago?
So what you’re saying is - it is theoretically possible… but I would need to keep it below 20psi swings?
No, it was tested – I did live tests before I even posted anything here, and many members from here were invited to come participate.
The fact you sold a skid with no pressure dampeners shows you really don’t know how this shit works
You really shouldn’t be building skids dude
Letting your customers do your r and d isn’t cool
You fucked Patrick over hard and I’m gonna make sure ppl see how shitty you were to him
I was there helping him trying to fix that skid while you’re fucking off with his money
Then why couldn’t you fix Patrick’s skid?
Your design with pneumatics IS inherently flawed
There’s definitely a workaround for that fluctuation issue. I’m going to talk to some automation guys - I think it could be fixed with some rosemount pressure transmitters and some fancy plumbing.
Of course I could be way off too
If you could find a pneumatic that was smooth enough yes, the haskells on the xspiral were all over the place
Why even go pneumatic then?
Just go electric
Theres literally no reason to use pneumatic pumps
I get my explosion proof pumps for the price of those haskells
OEM is key, which you get when you’ve been building skids in the industry for YEARS not months
I’m just trying to work with what’s around me and unfortunately that is a bunch of rosemount automation gear and a pneumatic pump.
I’ll almost certainly end up buying an electric one but if I can make this work just to get my feet wet - I’d like to try it. Mostly for shits and giggles right now.
If you try it and your membrane fouls and is unrecoverable don’t keep throwing membranes at it, know you need a smoother pump
@MagisterChemist is the loop haskel double or single acting?
Luckily I have a surplus of the hsro4040ff membranes, I’ve already cut a couple open and soaked in denatured to see if it seemed alright.
I’d be happy to send you a couple to try out if you’ll give me the results.
It’s double acting
