What is responsible for the change in texture/consistency after decarboxylating oil

Does anyone know why oil gets so hard/stickey after decarboxylation? Is it simply due to losing terpenes? Don’t most terpenes boil at a higher temp than the typical 110-130 deg C decarb temperature? If not terpenes, what else could it be?

I would guess packing order due to different inter molecular bonding properties (less H bonding), but its just a guess.

Hard? Mine will never get hard lmao. Breaking the A bond I would imagine

After it cools it doesn’t get sappy, stickier, and ultimately harder? How would you describe the consistency?

If you decarb dry material you’re definitely cooking off your terpenes if you decarb already extracted (BHO) then you’re definitely cooking off a lot probably most of your terpenes
Also THC A is a solid where as THC after decarb has viscosity

Sap or pull no snap for me

And some the terps may cook off but I somehow retain tons

Could be fats causing stability

It’s losing terpene content and any remaining solvents which might loosen it up.

Also, the THCA has been reacted into delta 9 THC which hardens up differently.

And you might also be denaturing some of the fats and waxes in there if you haven’t removed them before decarbing.
