What CRC option shall I chose?

Looking to get a crc setup for my 2LB system

I have a molecular seive, now I’m purchasing a coil and crc

For the crc I’ve been given an option

5micron sintered filter plate

I’m just wondering if this is okay as I’ve seen 1micron sintered plates

Help is always appreciated and this forum has pushed me far on my endeavours

Go with the 1 micron, but you have to stage your filtration properly or you run the risk of clogging your disc. But there are people stacking powders right on the disc to good effect also.

I’m going down to .2um now.

I’ve seen a post on ig where a guy is wiping fines off the top of a .2um plate that was staged below a 1um.

There’s a link some where around here to it.

I wouldn’t trust 1 micron for sure. (definitely stage down tho, or the .2 micron will get fouled real fast)

I’ve seent the fines with my eyes.

I think I already asked u but what are you guys using for the .22 @Curious_Roberto and @anon88836658?

I’m using a cartridge filter from Pall. Not the best implementation in my system (it’s directly in the collection, blocks a lot of the sight glass view) Got the idea from Roguelab, love the thing.

Check out indofabs cartridge filter housing. Same filtration I’m using, but you don’t have to place it inside your collection vessel like I did.

Fantastic flow rate too. I can’t see it slowing anything down. (I use it downstream of my CRC, filter papers/plates stacked ontop of a 1 micron filter from Killa, and then downstream, the .2 micron cartridge)

Any one no where to get a .2 sintered disk ? I’m running a 20 micron , over a 5 micron , over a 1 micron .

That’s what I’m using

Nice those don’t blowout or bend ever brother @Curious_Roberto? I’ve been meaning to try those out for feels like years gotta get a few…

I bet he doesn’t have proper pre-filters

I got 2 filter plates w extra drop in filter for both and solid rings, I load these w filter papers stage down in the next filter paper plate.

Then another filter plate for pre-filters w 1um felt tampon tek

Then 5um welded disk then 1um welded disk. My disk never see powders

But I do have to soak my filter plates w the papers in alcohol to get the paper and rings out then almost have to beat the rings out and extra disk they’re held in so tight

Sounds like an awful lot of work to take apart and rebuild. I’m definitely partial to dumping media right on my disc… but I can’t deny adding a 10 micron paper on top did increase flow rates a little.

I don’t change the papers but every 10 runs if they’re still in contact and fine

Damn…I change my paper and felt every time…

Id change the top filter plate that makes all the contact but usually it doesn’t make it past it. I have drop in filters for every plate. So every fikter plate is 2 filter papers. And I use 2 papers per plate to make tighter seal w the ring, cut the paper just wider than the hole

So first filter plate has 2 plates making 2 fikter. So does next one and the next has the twisted tampon tek. 5 pre-filters before my 2 welded disk. Saw so many ppl clogging to a stop or blowing powders through their welded disk w nitro push

I’m just rocking a 1.5 one, so I’m not worried about deformation.

But anything 4 and above you’d probably wanna get a backing plate.

@StoneD, could be, but if I can use a finer filter and not reduce my flow, imma use the smaller finer one just in case.

@CuriousChemist22, I’m not really using tampons anymore either, or paper. Just powders on top of the sintered disc, and my last run I just packed the powders in the same tube as my bio.

Easy peasy.

I can’t get behind the same tube as bio idea, but only because I get multiple runs out of a single crc.

That looks great @Curious_Roberto thanks for ur input. Happy 4th everyone!!

4" and 6" work fine without having a backing plate or any support. The media and the first disc take the pressure. The discs after don’t take the pressure and don’t blow out. I’ve had the same disc (I have multiple others now) in use for over a year and a half.

You can also get a 0.1 micron disc. You can stop aids with it

I’m not running a ton of material at all, so I just do one run and I’m done each batch.

Yeah, I wouldn’t know personally, I remember some bvv video that mentioned it with their sintered discs.

You definitely would know more than I do about this one.
