When was the last time you popped 100 beans from a reputable breeder?
You could pop 100 F1’s and probably find 15-20% winners and thats being pretty selective off a wide gene pool, probably get close to like 70-80% wins on something that has been stabilized and selfed a few times if it still has still has decent variation, probably close to 100% on low variations.
Running clones is fucking garbage echo chamber shit. unoriginal literal copycat. Running seed stock is the real long term win.
I suppose my beef is the noise in looking for reputable breeders. Mendo breath was an all time fav strain, I assume gage green is solid, buy into the hype and get dinged in the hunt. It’s a bang for the buck equation in my part. If I trust my clone sources/ I can save years getting a head start/foothold to build my genetic library /pallette. I agree in principal, long term the move is having your own unique cuts bred to your needs/clientele. However I would rather stand upon the shoulders of Giants and start with the best I can find.
You are literally shooting yourself in the foot for good old American convenience. So many growers are scared or a male, scared of a herm, scared of growing short/light runs. It’s so fucking hilarious.
You lock yourself into someone else flavor, style of growing, sexed genetics. You can’t tune your gear cause they are all bitches, you never have anything unique, you can’t pivot without hand holding… I dunno. I’m just all for good old fashioned farming. For me it’s do the hard work, or forever just be another wall flower… Literally.
Don’t get me wrong. An elite clone, for that price, has a place. But it’s not to clone and grow for loot.
For since men for the most part follow in the footsteps and imitate the actions of others, and yet are unable to adhere exactly to those paths which others have taken, or attain to the virtues of those whom they would resemble, the wise man should always follow the roads that have been trodden by the great, and imitate those who have most excelled, so that if he cannot reach their perfection, he may at least acquire something of its savour. Acting in this like the skilful archer, who seeing that the object he would hit is distant, and knowing the range of his bow, takes aim much above the destined mark; not designing that his arrow should strike so high, but that flying high it may alight at the point intended.

I would never ever pay even 1k for a cut. I remember when sunset sherbert was first released clones were 500 and I waited til they were 50 even then i only bought 5.
That being said the value of these expensive cuts comes from one thing and that is marketing. If you are not in a position to hunt your own phenotypes and market them yourself perhaps paying and obscene amount for a cut could potentially make business sense.
From a strictly cultivation perspective I have personally had great success purchasing and hunting seeds. Always found my best cuts this way and usually no one else will have them. But its up to you to get the word out and build your market for the pheno. But hey good weed still sells itself.
So if you don’t do any marketing, you buy their cut and the units sell themselves because the breeder markets it for you.
So why not just say you got the elite cut and get the marketing without paying for it? Because at the end of the day, a grower could get the elite cut and grow it like shit, or flipside, they could get any other cut (or cross or seed pop) and grow it perfect and call it whatever.
I love how upset everyone gets about this. If you don’t want to spend that kind of money don’t do it.
Our cut group shared the brunt of all those expensive breeder cuts, so all of it was more palatable. Buying hype genetics hasn’t done me wrong yet.
Sometimes it’s just not financially viable to do genetic selection in a commercial setting. Not when you NEED to turn a profit. Yes popping seed will always be where you’ll find YOUR special stuff, but it’s all time. Sometimes speed is what you need.
Lots of guys are stuck breeding on yield and density but the stinky stuff that I value for extracts doesn’t necessarily need to be dense or a fat yielder.
My nose is kind of special if anyone wants me to phenohunt a flower room. That’s assuming you are just flowering the cuts and the moms or other cuts are in tact and labeled.
There is no honesty in business homie, business is business. I learned that a long time ago. Your always polishing a turd to some extent or you’re not a “business”
Ok so 10k plants are actually inhouse gmp genetics… Maybe the first elite plants could be considered even more( its one plant and a whole project behind it) …
We will never see these round these parts or any for that matter.
There was still no straight answer…
A phd genetisist and a phd agronomist for 5 years cost quite alot…
And it seems theres a lack or someone would respond in fury of their breeder hurt ego…
Its seems theres a unmeasurable gap here in IP and Progress compared to the agroscience of 2022…
What I mean is you and I can be as honest as we want to be it’s not going to make the “business” we’re in an honest one. If you’re not here tomorrow then it was all for nothing.
