Welch Direct Drive Rotary Vane Pumps: CRVpro

Do you have any experience with these pumps from @goldleaf_scientific?

Are they an upgrade from Edwards pumps? It kind of looks like Goldleaf is portraying them as so.

Goldleaf, can you tell us the specs of them? There aren’t any technical specifications on the product pages.

Lab society pushes these aswell.

Yeah but Welch has them all listed here. (Download the manual) Most vacuum pumps are fairly similar and the basic design has been around for decades, but there are a few upgrade that Welch made with these pumps.

  • They carry more oil (this makes contamination less of an issue because there is more dilution)

  • They run cooler and this can offer better life on the parts and seals

  • They consume less oil (they will mist when at lower vac but once the vac level increases there is little to no mist. especially if gast valve is closed. Some other pumps will mist out oil constantly and this can be an issue with venting.

Welch also has a diffusion pump that they are coupling with these pumps so if you need really deep vac at a good price they are your answer.

Which model is the equivalent of the Edwards E2M28/30?

Do you think the pro8 is adequate for a 5l SPD system? Or is the pro16 a better choice?

Crvpro30 is close to the Edward’s 28

Probably not id go for as big as I could afford

Pro8 or even a pro4 will work, but if you plan to scale up it might be smart to oversize the pump

replaced my edwards 12 with a welch. Been very happy with it.

As an owner of the pro8. Definitely get the 16, for sure.

i have a crv pro 16. We ran it for a couple runs no problem, but now when connecting vac gauge directly to the pump it can hardly reach 800 microns. We have changed the oil numerous times but still not properly functioning. Im guessing its really dirty inside or we just haven’t used it the way it should be. Any help would be appreciated.

The crv pump is the same as the cacejen or lesker. They are originally made by woosung. They are probably one of the bitchiest and less durrable pumps on the market.

Anyone happen to have a repair manual for a CRV pro 8?
