From a process standpoint, I think a washing machine is pretty comparable to most of the ethanol extraction equipment on the market. The ethanol supply could be chilled in a tank with a pump supply to the washer inlet. Why are people only using washers as centrifuges and not for extraction? I have been thinking about using a salad spinner for extractions myself.
I’m thinking… that perhaps people are away of all the electrical switches and motors and pump switches that are inside washing machines. And those things are not in a sealed area mostly. Which means they are exposed to your solvent. Using it for ice hash is one thing. Using it with flammable solvent seems to be a completely different thing.
Even salad spinners can be concerning from a safety standpoint. Please don’t blow yourself up or catch yourself on fire. <3
What @Cassin said.
Tear one down and look at all the bits that are incompatible with doing this safely (heptane changes some of that).
Just because this can and has been done, does not make it a good idea.
There are both operator and consumer level risks here.
Flooding with solvent is certainly going to increase the risk of ignition from the solenoids or pump. Arguably it also increases the solvent exposure levels for any incompatible materials (“rubber” hoses, pump internals?)…
I recall asking for $2k once upon a time, to buy a commercial washer to tear down, and then rebuild for just this trick (couple of years before the CUP came out too…), I was told no.
Same thing when I recommend they get a CUP as soon as they were available (Google for cannabis+centrifuge finally hit…bought up salad spinners earlier)
They did eventually get a CUP 15…but someone else had to recommend it first.

did you read any of this thread?
these washers are being used for ETHANOL…
which brings you very close to spam.
He has ethanol salad spinners too.
Yep…AND that’s not what he posted here.
I get it was a first post too.
Not flagged. Merely commented on.
it’s been going on for a few days now… shameless
We manufacture both ethanol and solventless washers was just commenting on the basic principle of the salad spinner. They both work the same on the Same principle. If you fell this this is spam please give this to the admins to remove
You notice the sit & spin in my avatar
I do grok the similarities…
Hi I am looking at using washing machine to wash with ethanol can you tell me what brand or kind of washing machine though use now? Also did you do any modifications to them to be able to wash cannabis material with them?
Thanks
Hi I am looking to use a washing machine to wash cannabis material with alcohol. What can you tell me about which washing Machine to buy and what I have to do to it so that it will work for a washing cannabis?
I can spin a salad pretty well myself
When I first got my Panda I had one hell of a time getting it up to speed. It vibrated so badly I built a cage for it which I bolted to the floor, but still no improvement. I tried 1 set of bags and then 2 sets of bags with little difference. Then one day I took out the white spin disc so that the bags sat right at the bottom of the drum. Voila! Spun up to full speed at first attempt, and no further problems since then. I now sit the disc on top of the bags. Maybe that is what I should have done initially, but I had little experience using such a machine.
seems like you might want to exercise the “buy a clue” option before you buy a washing machine…
