Vape Oil from Rosin?

I’ve done a lot of searching online and found very few tutorials on processing flower into rosin into vape oil carts. I’m humbly asking for any advice or resources for this.

So far in reading articles or seeing youtube videos, I’ve learned that it can be done, but is challenging. The main challenge is to keep the liquid rosin of a high purity, and it normally needs to be combined with terpines for the right consistency.

Filtering out the unwanted material from the Rosin is the biggest issue, in my understanding. From what I understood, it is good to use a relatively low heat/pressure, use a 120 micron filter bag for the flower and MAYBE even use a syringe filter(s) on the decarbed rosin liquid.

Some advise to decarb slow and low over a long time to make the process smoother.

Some suggest to do 2 rosin presses with the first run at low pressure (not to then undergo decarb but) to be re-added to that second run which has undergone decarb.

Please let me know if I am understanding this correctly and whether you can advise me any further ideas, tips or set of info on this process?

I haven’t done this a ton, so excuse if I say nothing useful.

Smaller pore size bags will yield less contamination. Before i would use the smallest size I had on hand, decarb after pressing, mix with terps (5%) and cart it up

That being said I never had a super good cart, and I was only making 2 at a time

Flower rosin contains too many of the lipids, waxes, and fractured plant cuticles to allow decent flow in a cart even with additional terps. High quality material > bubble hash > freeze dry > low temperature press > jar tech for decarb > fill carts with desirable amount terps for flow. Thats the ideal sequence of events to achieve a quality functioning rosin cart.

Smallest size Micron bag, such as?

I’ve seen on youtube, mixes of 1:1 with terpines. Maybe your 5% was too low?

Bubble hash and freeze dry? Sounds good but getting a lot more involved than I was planning.

I would really like to keep it simple by skipping those if I can. I don’t even know if it’s possible and worthwhile or a moneypit to try? Would there be any recommended tek at all?!

Or maybe not, and just need to bubble hash first, to improve purity.

But freeze dry? That looks like a big investment in a freeze dryer machine (I’m not so commercial on this project to invest like that unfortunately).

Freeze drying preserves the terps versus traditional dessication. If you dry out the old fashion way you can still press the bubble and achieve a decent quality if your starting material allows for it. The freeze dryer will take you to the next level of quality if you so pursue it. In the mean time if you start with bubble then press you can follow jar tech to decarb and then source good Cannabis derived terps to achieve a desirable viscosity for usable carts. Flower just isn’t a good approach to making carts.

It’s been over a year sorry I cannot remember

Do not ever do 1:1 terpenes. Anyone suggesting doing that in tutorials should not be allowed to give advice. If 5% doesn’t work, maybe 7-8% if you’re feeling spicy, the problem is the concentrate. Either need to work on refining it better or cheat and add something more refined. I suggested something similar to this in another post. If your extract is too waxy, add 10-20% of a distillate (D9, CBD, whatever you have access to) to help disperse the waxy impurities more. A cartridge coil can handle a little waxes at a time but all at once in the case of rosin will clog up bad. So if you can’t wash your rosin and do it the right way, add in a little bit of distillate while you decarb and add terps to circumvent the issue.
