I was wondering if or if anyone has used a reactor as a “roto vap” i would assume it would work was just curious if anyone had. Thanks in advace
I haven’t (so why am I posting? Bored mostly) it’ll more than likely just run less efficiently based on surface area & agitation. Conceptually it should work though, especially if you’ve got the overhead stir bar rocking. Any system that has the right levels of vacuum & thermal energy is gonna create a boiling reaction.
Ya pretty much what I thought, i got this reactor just sitting here ive never used so figured id try it out
Good for making isolate or decarbing crude though.
Are you talking about actually spinning the reactor? Or just using a reactor for distillations?
You can boil alcohol at room temp with good vacuum.
Just keep in mind residency time and potential of over-heating or baking oil inside of a large batch-pan setup.
True it would be just to recover alcohol. Id it doesnt work ill just get another roto
You can absolutely recover alcohol in a reactor. There is definitely a difference between a reactor and of course but a reactor is made to do everything basically
Spinning the reactor ???![]()

Thats would be a “grand idea”
Or you could use the reactor to get most of the solvent out then finish it off in the rotovap
Or just take look at ecochyl rotovaps ,they used basic reactor ,and convert it to rotovap ,and sold it for 95k :))
Ya ivw seen rhen m, I figured it would work just wondered if anyone had done it before. Maybe get some tips etc.
you will need external condensers ,and recovery flask ,i think it is very simple design
I got a 50L reactor. it came with a “single tube” condenser. I am not familiar with this type and im wondering how it will compare to a coil type
Ya i just have one i dont use so i figured id give it a shot, once invet everything moved into the new spot ill let you know how it works
