Trump reclassifies state-licensed medical cannabis to Schedule III

Like the thread title says, this is medical only for now.

They’ve scheduled a meeting for Jun 29 to discuss broader adult use/recreational rescheduling. I’m guessing they’re not going be letting go of the tax money very easily, we’ll see.

So the read right now is that medical likely gets 280E relief, while rec still has 280E apply.

I see lots of people prematurely celebrating ā€œ280E dayā€.

Always gotta read the fine print with govt, especially when they’re talking about easing taxes.

Truth.

He literally just fucked the medical and rec market at the same time…

Unless you get an fda license (since the fda now controls it and ANY schedule 3 requires a license) youre not getting 280E as it wont be considered medical without that license…

So big corporations who can afford to do full c gmp will have the money to get the licensing and then will make a ton more than any medical or rec company because they get the write offs

Ill bet you money this is how its gonna go

Yea only time will tell but I’m already feeling similar to how I did after Cali passed recreational. Lots of people excited but I’m super apprehensive.

I bet you’re right that eventually it will move towards how medical is in Germany. Heavy regulation, cGMP, FDA permits, complicated manufacturing/transport, ā€œwhite coatā€ environment, real pharmacy/prescription usage not dispensaries, etc.

I’d be very surprised if they actually give any 280E relief to rec companies anytime soon.

This gets them the ā€œpro cannabisā€ populist boost for the midterms, that’s probably all they wanted.

Its really mind blowing how people are celebrating today as 280e relief day when they dont even realize whats coming

This is spot on IMO look how many people are celebrating without even realizing theyre about to get fucked

How is a rec or unlicensed med program supposed to compete against big pharma with 280e relief? I dont think its possible, big pharma could under cut them for years and still make money and put them all out of business if they really wanted to

Seems to be par for the course in the marijuana communities I’ve seen.

Eh nobody knows how it’ll go - for sure there will be mandatory licensing for taxation (wholesale specific) and single convention obligations, pretty much anything else is TBD.

There’s also a somewhat decent chance this entire thing gets overturned in court lol

Because Schedule III requires a prescription? How is this competitive with rec in any way? That’s an apples to oranges comparison.

If the pharmaceutical companies wanted to pitch for it to be over the counter, then that would be different, but no maneuvering will somehow transfer the huge number of rec users onto medical prescriptions… That didn’t happen with any other popular drug that was changed to prescription-only and it didn’t happen when ā€˜medical alcohol’ was the only way to get it legally either; most people would rather get commodities like weed and alcohol illegally than have to deal with medical insurance and doctors to get it.

Even with if states were absolutely compliant in the process, pharma companies trying to narrow a market from it’s current size to 1% of that size, isn’t a money maker for them either. There are tons of ways they can make money from rescheduling, but trying to close down the rec markets to try and compel everyone to get them from pharmacies, isn’t going to be the path forward on that one.
