TRS-21 safety and procedure

Yikes!!!
Operator said it just siezed up.

How many of your operators are running pumps to failure, in other words how hot is your pump running?!
Notice the heat stress on what remains of the bearing.

strange noise?
what strange noise?!?

I’ve seen none so abusive of equipment as this particular industry.

I thought I had before I got here. I was wrong.

No pumps, no problems

So I recently purchased some equipment and there was a trs21 in the lot and I have no immediate plans to use it.

Are these safe to move liquid solvent? I could see that being a very helpful tool in some situations. Just don’t know the rules on liquid vs vapor in these guys.

“Oh that noise just started last week”

go passive the said… There won’t be pumps they said… There’s about 6 million chiller compressors out there that say otherwise

Listen to @Dr.stanky

Throw that thing away and whenever you make your ROI on a new pump, you’ll laugh that you even considered using one in the past.

Don’t buy a cmep either. Passive or a decent recovery pump

Is it worth a damn for moving liquid solvent? Trying to find a use for it.

I’ll promote hybrid setup for tr21 scale folks.

Que??

I run my tr21 for 5-10 minutes per run, split between injecting and end of recovery. The rest of the time its passive through a DI coil.

No. Just vapor

Door stop?

I’ll be sure to make it a door stop for the new lab. Lol.

@midsfactory has a very interesting doorstop as well. It’s an expensive ass C1d1 camera he couldn’t get to work with his current system

I’ll give you $5 not to sell it to someone.

Trs21 are rated to pump liquid so you could use it for it if you wanted . I repurposed my old ones for siphoning old diesel or gas or other fluids works great have donated many to my mechanic friends for transfering fluids as well . I figured if it is rated to safely pump butane / propane liquid it would be fine for gas , diesel , or kerosene . I have pumped 50+ gallons of diesel or gas with no issues. People can hate all they want on cheap trs21 but they are functional . 4 Trs21 hits 2lbs a minute recovery without a chilled tank even at 50+ psi . A MVP150 will not do this . I have a hard time getting even close to the same recovery out of a an expensive mvp 150 with a chilled tank at 0 psi as opposed 4 trs 21s and a tank at 50-75 psi . The mvp is way more sanitary and requires less maintenance and is why it wins at the end of the day in my opinion . But now hot vapor loop will not work with this pump and i have had to change my total setup to be close to what it was as well as spending a bunch in the process . Now i have to use nitrogen or hot propane vapor push to move my solvent because my tank is at 0psi when i start my second run . I doubled checked cps website they are definitely rated for liquid

I’ve used one as an air compressor to move ethanol…

inlet open to atmosphere.
exit gives compressed air

(pressure tested gear that way too…)

I might even have used one as a vacuum pump to move ethanol…

I’ve certainly used one for active “recovery” of ethanol in a PX1.

Edit: thanks @Saucyslabz!! I’ve always avoided liquid through those pumps. you’ve upped my game.

Interesting, i had no idea trs21 was rated for liquid. I wonder if passing etoh on a loop would help maintain the pump and de-gum the vapor path.
