Trading Cards and the Dollars

What formats do you play?

Always legacy/casual/standard sometimes modern. Never got deep into tournament play, just a few FNM games at a local store and lots of friendly games with family and the neighbor.
The day I realized I would never buy another card was the day I played Limited and booster draft with my older cousins and spent something like $500 opening cards and blindly building decks and realized I had better things to do with my money. Never enjoyed the FNM games even though I never did half bad, just wasnt for me. Id much rather play casual and have fun.
My much younger 12yo cousin was playing their made up version of pokemon with a friend, absolutely no ruleset loosly based on ending with who can hit the hardest. Had never played pokemon. We spent a few days learning and building decks. It reminded me to have fun and reassured me I’d much rather get faux cards than worry about buying/selling/trading and build decks based on total value. My neighbor and I will do $50 deck fights and then $2000 deck fights and I dont even have to worry about spilling drink all over the table.

Childhood sports card collector here…as a big kid i still find myself in card breaks all the time…i got my 5 yr old on pokemon cards and he loves it
