I can clearly see from that YT channel that the buds turned out small and extreme defoliation hurt the yield.
Not sure if that was your point.
Not sure what YT channel you are speaking of but I am not really talking about stripping or raping. I just open up the top of the canopy to get some light further into the lower areas.
The YT channel in @pangea link. It has a vid that shows the plants in that pic right before chop and they looked like the extreme defoliation hurt the yield.
This topic always leads to a bunch of different opinions. Best thing to do is have a control group that you donāt pluck, and another you do and see what works for you Iād say.
Outdoor guerrilla growers would bend tall plants downward and tie the tops to a stake. Then the plant grows upward from there. It actually accomplishes similar goals as trimming and topping.
Here is a volunteer hemp plant that decided to prune most of itself in that fashion.
God.damm.more.like BOOOM!?
Top work my man
yeah im with demontrich, defoliate heavy 3 weeks before flip, then defoliate the top half of the plants at week 2 when buds start to clump up.
Clean out the bottoms day 1 of flower.
If u automate everything, a 3 week cycle schedule is perfect, and how i see alot of bm small 20-40 lighters do.
They split the room into 3 pieces and flower for 9 weeks.
Ive heard once from a hobo, they had a room thats been dialed in for years, 4 man crew. They harvest, replace with new clones, deleaf both other sets, all in one day and repeat every 3 weeks. 20 lights per harvest section, 60 total. I still havent seen or heard of a more efficient op
When I first started growing I played around with extreme defoliation, or āstrippingā as some people refer to it. I found over time that the strains I preferred to work with didnāt perform as well when āstripped.ā Instead, I adopted the belief that itās better to only defoliate particular portions of specific branches. If I have a branch stretching more in early flower than the others Iām more likely to remove fan leaves from it rather than a branch thatās not stretching as much. That slows it down briefly and allows others to catch up. I never remove all of the fan leaves on a branch these days. The only oneās I consider touching would be the ones cluttering up the center of a plant, preventing airflow and light penetration. Imo itās good to leave the majority of the fan leaves when you can.
I have tried both ways.
Iām with @BG305 on this oneā¦
Three a light aka chads bible
If you believe that three a light is anything of any reference, you mine as well go by success nutrient while youāre at itā¦(The brand he hyped up)

If you do defoliateā¦ when and where
Lolypop within the first 7-14 days of flower, after that leave it alone.
Lollypopping for the win.
Defoliation per āthree a lightā Is a no go imo
I probably bought some of your green at some point. Iām from Islamorada, and I used to pick up in CocoPlum (early 2000ās).
You got better looking plants than any of there ā3 a light roomsā do
Itās absolutely about canopy management for a good yield. I defoliate day 0, 21 and 42 of flower depending on labor at the time so the bud sites all get light. It very much cuts down on larf and lets the flowers ripen at the same time. I average ~2-2.5 per light depending on genetics.
Iāve been using China fabric pots for years. I want some of those for root pruning.
Ya me too, then just take them to the laundry mat to clean them. These just looked kind neat, effective or not remains to be seen. Plus $8 for a 5 gallon its alot more than my usual fabric pots, but if they last longer than 2-4 runs then the cost will be close enough i might use them instead.
