Tips, tricks, filtration? on dry ice kief in a closed loop. have filter discs and filter plate and i made my closed loop bi directional so i have top or bottom flood option I ordered a sintered disc filter plate for a hundred dollars but don’t have it yet can I get by with the filter plate rings and 100 micron screen gaskets just trying to make good crude to methanol winnterize nothing extravagant got about a lb to run of good kief in my 1.5 " x 36" jacketed column any help or advice much appreciated
cut it with something. trim, ball, bearings, stainless mesh.
the trichrome stalks and the bits that dont dissolve regularly cause a patty and clogging.

yeah was really wondering how everyone went about doing pure kief
considering the bearing and mesh i have some of both on hand seen a few comments about it was not finding anything very clear on it unless im just way to high to use the computer today lol
I’ve had success extracting from kief by flooding the bottom of the column with solvent.
Mixing kief with an inert media is another option, if you decide to go that route then sieve the kief and mix it up with some inert aluminum oxide powder. If you’re having trouble getting a good mixture throw the powders in the freezer before mixing them it helps to keep the trichomes from sticking to one another.

awesome suggestion thanks a lot!! I know many of you are very busy professionals and I really appreciate your input! I have plenty of alumina probably try a bottom flood and good mix with alumina. that gives me a lot more confidence processing the kief.

I think the initial burst of pressure from introducing the solvent from the bottom helps to kind of fluff up the mixture a bit. That’s my theory for why it worked well anyways lol.

agreed def what I was thinking never even tried bottom flood yet just figured the fluid would help suspend particles and improve even distribution of solvent contact

Oh yeah any idea on good ratio for alumina to dry ice kief? Got like a lb to blast through my 200g column wondering if it will all go in one run
I didnt measure it out when I did it but I’d say it was close to 30% by volume.

I’ve done it and a good deal of kief clumped together inside my column that didnt get extracted in the first go.

You got a panda?
You can make 50 micron or finer meshes to fit inside, instead of filtering in the column, you can dump it sttaight into 5 gallon jugs, and use the panda to filter the kief, once it slows down, stop the panda and scoop out the kief it will be like dry flour consistency.
For kief, I dont reuse my alcohol, I think its saturated enough just getting it in a slurry. It goes straight to the roto after the panda, but my panda goes down to 0.5 micron
