The Road to Legal D8

So if the legal issue with delta 8 is extracted vs synthesized, and;
There are people saying it is naturally occurring in hemp, and more importantly not marijuana;
Then isn’t the only route for d8 to keep any semblance of legality a large scale extraction and chromatography, to isolate a batch of d8 that’s naturally occurring?

Is it really in such minute quantities that this isn’t feasible? Because with all the money y’all have at risk, I would think you could get it done. It’s not got to be a scalable process, if it’s literally just for the sake of argument.

What do you all think? Would this help the natural argument? Would it do the opposite and prove that extraction isn’t feasible, and that all d8 is synthetic?

Someone will CRISPR hemp to make D8, rumor has it that it’s already in the works.

Lol. Damnit. Why is the cancel button next to the post button lmfao.

Was gunna say some humdrum end of the world crap but it wasn’t as funny on the page as in my head.

You think the crispr route is valid? Have they already identified the portion they’d need to splice in?

They don’t need to splice in anything from my understanding, the plant already makes D8, they just have to take out the parts that convert CBG to other cannabinoids, or alter the synthase gene to only make D8 instead of other cannabinoids.

I’ll be honest I don’t know much about genetics or CRISPR for that matter, only what I’ve read, which is a drop in the bucket.

Edit: My understanding is also that so far, the only released CRISPR’d cannabis plant was altered to attach sugars to the cannabinoids so you can just extract it with water.

Yaaay water-sol cannabinoids right off the stalk!

Supposedly they are trying to do it ethically by including a gene that makes it unable to breed.

Here’s a patent: US20190085347A1 - High Level In Vivo Biosynthesis and Isolation of Water-Soluble Cannabinoids in Plant Systems - Google Patents

It is is general 2 to 3 tmes less concentrated than d9, about 80 times less than CBD. Meaning it never exceeds 0.3wt%. :grimacing:

Oh yeah, duh. It’s already in a weed plant lol.
It sounds like it wouldn’t need crispr at all. Gene test every member of the population and the computer tells you which ones are your parents for the next generation.
Real ag companies tools are indistinguishable from magic. Lol
