I was searching for separation of rosin from trichome by centrifugation but I did not find anything.
Has anyone tried making rosin with a centrifuge instead of a press?
How does it compare in terms of duration, temperature and wax retention?
Depends on how viscous the aromatic liquid is and the solubility of the aliphatic waxes.
After some conversation with ai about how to compare pressure in a press to pressure on the outside of bed of the centrifuge I came to the conclusion that it is nonsense because of the fact that presses usually give dryer cakes.
I’ve had this discussion with people before, I mean it’s possible for sure - I think the real consideration is that the exposure time to heat will be far greater than if you were to just simply press it and have it go through filtration that way. You’d need a heated fuge first and foremost and that in itself is a high enough barrier of entry to keep most people out.
Long story short - if you have a heated fuge with 25 micron or better filtration…fuck it go for it. Lotta money to spend on a maybe though.
Only one person I’ve seen accomplish it so far is @Hashcru or @thecartiologist it’s a neat process but I feel is more a process forsure. But it also seems to point out that some company’s input products and process aren’t as clean as can be. I will say there’s a few of us out there that make our garbagio the best it can be with tricks we’ve all learned and shared. It’s more of a to each their own process imo. Either way I’m gonna fill my lungs with something good.
If I had a fuge that can accelerate with 4000g I would just try that without any modification to see how much of them trichomes burst
When you rub a plant in the sun it does not take a lot of force to break them and in the first moment the trichomes open they are like glue inside. The same is true for the separated live trichomes. They are even less robust now because if the freezing.
Lay a sieve on top.
What density do press cakes have?
Do you know honey centrifuges? Maybe with a steel plate plunger that works. They are big and cheap. Might take some time but that is not bad as long as the residues rinse out.
I have got a better idea.
When we break the trichomes hull we don’t need to squeeze them so much. (Cryo) milling or freeze- thaw cycling but idk if the pores that produces is enough.
