SPD vs. fractional distillation under vacuum

So we have the normal SPD setup, but why can you not use a generic fractional distillation setup and take the vacuum down to SPD levels from the cow?

I understand the efficiency but with a taller vigreux the product coming over would be more pure and it would be easier to see transitions between fractions. Is this correct or am i wrong?

If that is what you seek then check out the spinning band fractional distillation units made by B/R Instruments. There are several B/R users here including myself.
