"something I made" thread

Oh we’ve watched that movie together more than I can count! If we let her she would put that movie on during dinner every single night of the week

Wanna do an art trade sometime? I need an excuse to do a new piece

I may be up for it, these I’m doing as a series to sell.

I may have an offer on Totoro as it stands.

But we can talk about it!

Yeah, I was using a hot glue gun (MIG)…with the wrong (synthetic) gloves (semi-fingerless) and shoes.

technically they melted rather than catching fire…but I was better dressed for the task than the clown in a tutu who handed me the torch…

Switched to tig gloves for fixing bikes so I could go straight to the welder without a glove change on the next one.

Most people would read that as a figurative thing, I interpret that literally. :joy:

This is a series of cavity’s that I machined into a block, the customer wanted a mold to make deep sea weights for fishing.

Here is a video of the finished mold block:

Time to start a new project apparently

I think it’s either a Suzuki Boulevard 650 or a Savage 650. Doesn’t need much work according to the previous owner, literally pulled it out of a trash pile for free. Odometer said 9k but I’m not exactly sure how much I believe that…but on the other hand nothing on this bike except bits of rust on the exhaust look all that bad. I’m pretty fucking stoked. Seems like it just needs a new seat, ignition and…so far, that just seems like it. $0 for baby’s first motorcycle doesn’t seem like a bad deal and I even have something new to wrench around on.

What Makes You Think Ignition? Has No Spark? Thats A Sweet Ass Bike For Free Bro!!

No key for ignition to try - a few of my friends who ride pretty much for a living pointed me to a nice scrap yard that’s got hella cheap stuff! Cheaper to get an entirely new ignition vs. a locksmith to make me a new one…which I don’t think I can do right now because the title wasn’t on hand but I at the very least know for a fact that the owner will approve the title transfer when I get it searched

Thanks bro! Stoked to get it running

its pretty easy to replace the ignition switch with a toggle switch if u have a test light. only issue with no key is its gonna be hard to put gas in her

A drill and a 25 dollar kit should suffice for a swap it seems. Drilled out plenty of locks in my time

1986-2004 Suzuki Savage 650 for sure, the Boulavard 650 had a v twin where as the savage is single cylinder. the envy is real on this one

Looks like these are a lot easier to chop up too. Found a highly recommended salvage yard in the city I’m likely gonna hit with my buddy later

Person that wanted this is taking their time getting back to me, if they dont contact me within a few days, Goku would be up for grabs.

Day 2 of ripping apart a motorcycle I pulled out of the trash!

I managed to get a cheap saddle which isn’t bad at all save for a tiny rip but I really don’t give a shit about that. As long as I don’t need to stuff wires up my ass - i’m A-ok. I ripped everything apart to really get a good idea of how the guts look and work. Got a cheap harbor freight battery that has the juice to turn over the bike (but not to really do much more than that - it’s gonna be replaced for ‘I don’t wanna be fucking stranded’ sake). No key from the previous owner, I guess the guy is overseas for the next 2 weeks - now patience is for suckers so I ripped out the ignition and hotwired the fucker because why not. I don’t plan on going out riding like this but for the short term I don’t give a fuck. Worked perfect at least to allow all the wires to make contact and give me an idea of what i’m dealing with.

The lights turned on, horn works (but is weak and needs swapping), blinkers blink and brake light works. The petcock for the tank seems to be all fucked and dry rotted so I got a replacement along with some fuel line on it’s way. All I had to do was barely touch the fucking thing and the mesh filter on it absolutely crumbled so I assumed I could expect the same from all sorts of parts connected to it. Just for longevity’s sake I’m going to pop a small inline fuel filter on there. I also ordered a replacement solenoid because even though I didn’t have the tank and petcock hooked up I tried to at least turn it over and I just heard a single ‘click’ which wasn’t even very pronounced. Since the solenoids are so cheap I ordered another one of those which I’ll probably be able to swap out in a few minutes too. Ez. Even if it’s directly causing issues I’m all for preventing my ass getting stuck somewhere after going somewhere.

This is my first motorcycle and I’m just super excited to get it running on my own. Any dickhead can go out and piss away money on something that runs but to me there’s no greater satisfaction than taking something someone thought was absolute trash and making it work with your own two hands. Tomorrow all the parts should be in and I’ll be able to go on from there. In the meantime today I’m going to give the tank a real nice blow job with an air compressor and try to blast all the crap out before I install the new petcock and make my new fuel filter cry with the junk that’s likely in there.

As a bonus there’s a chinese man working on a pocket bike. You’re welcome. That fucking thing is a dog btw with some of the worst welds on the exhaust i’ve ever seen and an exhaust pipe the size of a ballpoint pen. Horrible porosity. My old instructor would have beat whoever did them to death with their own welder

Half of this structure began life as a 1970s trailer, which had water damage at some point that rotted the floor. The best way to improve a trailer is to rip out all things trailer and rebuilt everything. The new floor sits on the steel frame, which the previous owners somehow managed to bend. But with enough shims it is going to be closer to level than it ever was.
