It’s an interesting balance. With alcohols, MeOH is by far the best, EtOH works, while isopropanol is not an optimal solvent for dewaxing.
Perhaps ketones have advantageous winterization properties. Really you are trying to leverage differential affinity of your cannabinoids vs your waxes.
My spidey senses tell me acetone would have a higher affinity for some waxes, but not others. For example, triglycerides dissolve in acetone while being poorly soluble in ethanol while di/monoglycerides would be much less soluble in acetone (though probably not 0) compared to ethanol. That’s just a pedestrian example and there are MANY more classes of compounds that I’m omitting.
I also extract in ethanol so I’m not familiar with BHO, so I may be a bit off.
