Seeking Distillation Information for SCIENCE

Thats fair….I guess. Its certainly very modular. I’ll take a regular short path over it any-day, even with the extra cleaning involved. Early-on, I loved playing MacGyver and figuring out wild ways to do things. With more age and experience, I just use the right tool for the job. It makes my life easier and more enjoyable.

the first one is what most folks doing (starting) cannabinoid distillation are using. Commonly referred to as an “SPD” (short path distillation). Although there are many other ways of performing the task.

the second one is for steam distillation. which in cannabis, has been successfully used for capturing the lighter molecules (“terpenes”), but is extremely unlikely to get you cannabinoids.

@bingus will probably make more money if he steam distills weed and sells the terps.

have you seen @drpaul’s falling film still?

or @circus_animal’s kuge?

@jazel0 here is another way to use your toaster oven…

I have not, those are gems! Don’t let the fire marshal see . I had a setup similar to @circus_animal back in the day. A Kuge-Rotovap hybrid. I kind of wish I didn’t sell it now.

come on - don’t be mean.
I bet @bingus will do a good job.
He just need to study a bit.

But yeah - with steam distiller i doubt you’ll distill anything. Thats even worse that roto-vap lol, coz there’s water steam as a heat source. Idk why it was mentioned in the first place

nope. wrong end of stick.

@Ganjineer710 was NOT being mean. he was being realistic.

terpenes (done right) are generally worth more than cannabinoids.

Oh wait wha?
Terps cost more??

(for a 3rd world country dweller it’s sounds shocking)

because @bingus posted a link to a steam distillation apparatus.

me poor can’t login to reed
(me zimbabwe)

in 2020 a liter of steam distilled cannabis terpenes could fetch $20k

wildhillterpenes is currently asking 1000 euro for 50mls…

yep, you can absolutely get them for less.

Btw, would terpenes - like goood ones - have flavonoids?

I remember how some good company (first in the country ever) made very tasty CBD and some other C-noids vape HQD. But tasted like homeland zimbabwe hash

Also

:eyes:Daaaaamn

which is WHY I linked to a copy in the (future4200) data dump. AND pointed to it on scihub.

You’re thinking flavorants, and yes they do. Its not the same as HTE or Spun-off terpenes, but good enough to make your distillate sell.

@cyclopath I loved that you linked wildhillterpenes, since they are supporting villages in Nepal!

luckily, I do have a real nice 22L short path I’m about to list for sale - and it could potentially come with instruction on how to use it

I think that is maybe a little bigger than Im looking for but I dont mind atleast looking and learning a little more o7

Pretty sure I picked up that link from a comment you yourself made years ago!

Small world in cannabis, but it really is incredibly useful (at least for me) to understand what’s happening first, and how the idea itself evolved into what we see today. After all, how do you know which way is forward if you don’t know where we came from?
