First time posting, but I’m so happy with how this run came out, I just had to share! Two different phenos of Geisha Breath from Umami.
this is how this strain started, (not my pressing or parameters)
Buffered right away on the press. When you change your temps to lower you will no longer have to suffice with loss of terps and more prominent thca nucleation right away. Bettering your chances of making a cleaner fresh press and keeping a wetter consistency.
Below is examples of what changing the temps will do for you of course.
showing that when it comes to parameters and strain dependencies you need to observe and pay close attention.
160° on the heat for the press or sub 160° on these lower temp presses?
Before the first pressing was being done at a consistent 170 on all their input hash. So I noticed their strains were showing different characteristics of having higher or lower thca content more abundant budder up right off the plate or being more so drier on the spectrum of terpenes for the press that was happening. I showed that by lowering temp after observing that you will fully be able to control you parameter and still maintain a wetter squish meaning you’re preserving your terpenes better and allowing your rosin to flow and not cook on the plates.
You can also get a much better clear press by greasing down your hash in the bags prior to pressing for best clarity fresh press.
Sub 160 will allow you to press at low to mid pressure while allow a complete even and clear flow rate with no bubbling. Also resulting in less chance of a blow out.
This is different from pre vac sealing your bags or hammering them in a press mold right? Greasing down my bags as in lighter pressing the bags under a lower heat until I start seeing the bags sort of saturate with rosin without rosin actually leaking out the bag? I’ve tried dialing this in because I used to have this more dialed in where I would avoid blow outs while doing it, but I notice my plates heat up faster these days I don’t know why.
I try to get around 115-120° and do this, cut the heating element off the plates while getting the bags to grease up. And when I cut the plates off at around 115-120, by the time I’ve switched the heat back on after finishing the ‘greasing’ my plates are already around 140-145-150 after I cut off the heat around 115-120 and I’m more prone to blowouts when this happens vs when I used to cut the heat off and grease, the plates wouldn’t rise above 125-130 and I wouldn’t get blow outs as much
Is this what you mean by Greasing and what parameters do you shoot for if so?
Honestly it’s better to allow them to grease down in a vac seal bag lined with parchment that way you can seal the bag incase you worried of terpene loss or possible degradation, but I prefer to stick around 85-100°f which you can do by simply setting them up in the previously described vac seal setup and then slap on shelves in the oven and temp gun to ensure your temps are accurate of course. Allow them to start to grease down allowing the hash to essentially become more evenly distributed to the press bag and creating a much better flow rate across the entire surface instead of forcing air out of the hash as it’s pressed and causing possible blow outs to occur.
Keep and eye on them in the oven I like to run it for about 20-30 minutes and that’s typically sufficient enough for up to a kilo worth of press prepped out as you can typically fit anywhere between 5-6 rows & 3-4 deep depending on your vac ovens specs for size.
If doing like 1-2 at a time I’ll also just set them on top of the mount for a plate as it’s heated to temp for 15-20 minutes and play with the bag and then run
Has anyone picked up what the mechanism is here at work that hashcru has been offering for like 5k-10k ‘if you want to know the sauce’ for the “Naked Press”
Seeming to be similar to a sweat basket with a piston to compress the material into the basket thus allowing for a clean filtered press.
Crazy color and clarity. Are you decarbbing in an inert environment?
@SubstituteCreature do you still recommend the LowTemp v2? Or is there something better these days? Was looking at the 4x7 DabPress and the 4x7 LowTemp but I figured you were the man to ask
Nah straight up LTP all the way - I prefer the v2 though because when it comes to shit that COULD be done analog but is now digital has too many potential ways to fuck up. Not that i’ve seen it do that, I’m just an electronics asshole that plans for something to fuck up and leave me screwed and not knowing pressure would be awful.
For clarity - I’ve got the controller box on my mini-osprey and feel the same way about that. MY GOD WHY IS THERE TOUCH SCREENS ON DEVICES THAT WILL GET PARTICULATE ON IT THAT WILL MIMIC THE TOUCH OF A FINGER. Plus god fucking help you if you get a single drop of water on the controller since there’s a BIG FUCKING HONKING OPEN CHARGING PORT ON TOP that LOVES TO SHORT YOUR ENTIRE BREAKER IF THERE’S ONE DROP OF WATER THAT FALLS IN IT, LET ME TELL YA WHAT…..IN THE WASHING MACHINE…..FILLED WITH WATER….WITH NO FORM OF PROTECTION ON IT
They don’t sell a cover for the port? Or do they think a lifeproof case might fit like a iPad ![]()
Bro…and no additional waterproofing for damn near anything. I was dumbfounded. As a washer it works great, but my fucking god the potential for frying the electronics is there x1000000000000000000000000000000
I would get the dabpress 4x7 and pocket the difference (>$1k). Especially if you’re not making a ton of hash…mine has survived for years.
Send me a picture of the top with a ruler laid on top and I’ll make you a cover
Fuck yeah you rule, it’s a normal USB-C port up top if i’m not mistaken but i’ll shoot you a picture of that regardless in a bit here. My GFCI outlet thanks you in advance sir
What pump are you using these days? The larger hand pump? Have you run the air pump? Surprised to see the air pump is the same price as larger hand pump
Have you had to replace the pump? I’ve read mix feelings about the DabPress. Great for the price but not the same kind of long term investment as LowTemp.
Have you had to use DabPress support at all? I like the fact that LowTemp is us based and offers pretty good support
I like the price of DabPress but I really like the quality of LowTemp
I have never tried to warranty anything but yes I have replaced the bottle jack. I had a 300 lb friend use his gorilla strength to open the press while I threw a new one in.
The dabpress is bare bones and kinda dated but I haven’t seen anyone explain why a press needs to be thousands of dollars yet
Edit: you’re talking about the hand pump. Yes I’ve replaced that too (after much use). It was like 150
The main thing ltp has is its cage guiding the plates for ease of pressure to be evenly distributed across the puck. You can easily go pneumatic on one with the Medusa head upgrade and run multiple at the same time and have the same distribution across each cage. The more evenly distributed your plates are the more you can bring your puck towards the front allowing for faster flow off the plates and retention of your press quality ie terps and clarity over immediate buddering or drying out the rosin.
You can however be delicate with a mechanical press and achieve similar and spot on results while controlling your parameters precisely, just make sure you get a setup that has very sturdy plates and don’t go full balls to the wall on your initial press for best results.
