I believe purity is the defining part of that equation…just like adding salt to ice lowers the melting temp.
But unlike boiling, I’m pretty sure you can push right up against it,
Polymers (eg plastics) and amorphous solids (like glass) are a little different, and soften before they melt…but crystalline solids have pretty well define transition temps.
Solubility in any given solvent also changes with temp…
I guess that’s an inherent difference between solids and liquids(to include gases which are just very expanded liquids). Going to have to do a little research as to why, but I’m assuming it has something to do with the amount of energy necessary to make the phase change and how it is distributed throughout the substance in question.
So what ratio to thca oil to pentane are you doing? How hot are you getting to when you mix it and what temp/time frame do you let it sit before its time to a cold wash?
I
I read your starting with a fresh BHO run that you crashed and poured off the sauce. Then did hot mixture let it cool to room temp but I would typically then let it build pressure for several
Hours and throw it in the freezer. Then do a second dissolve and repeat the process again and then cold wash. Usually skipping the second dissolve if I get it done right and I’m in a hurry. This in line with what you’re doing ?
Also I wonder what starting material options are like instead of crashing your run and separating the sauce if you tried making isolate with a high quality BHO run without crashing it first. If it did work I’d imagine it would take 2-3 re crashes though eh?
I dont measure/weigh it out but if i had to guess its probably 3-1 or 4-1. I’d rather use more and have it dissolve easier/faster than try to penny pinch and use less. Usually I put it in a vac oven at 115 but I’ve honestly cranked it up to 135 until it hits 135 then I’ll drop the temp back down. Always do this in a well ventilated area, preferably you take the solution into your c1d1 room to stir.
Once I’m satisfied with the results then I break up the chunks and rinse.
If you look at my post above, that batch I started with jars of extract that were 2-4 years old, some not even sealed. It took a month of dissolving, crashing, pouring off, repeating etc.
You can do it with THCA Isolate though in literally 24hours in one go or it can take a couple of days or up to a month, really situationally dependent IMO and what you want your end results to be, faster = cloudier, slower = nice and clear.
It really depends on what you’re working with and how much work you want to put into it. You can do a fast crash in 24-48 hours after your pour from your CLS, pour off the majority of the terps and start working with the stuff thats crashed. At that point you have multiple options, you can start dissolving that right away in Pentane and collect the HTE throughout the crashes as you isolate the THCA, or you can spin the fast crash in a centrifuge and skip a couple days of crashing manually. there are reactors and other methods too i have 0 experience with.
also I’m no expert compared to some of the other guys on here, this is just from my experience of doing it every once in a while for just the past year. there are guys who do make diamonds literally every day.
