Resetting Temperature Range on Summit Accucold Freezer

Hello!

First off just want to thank the community for such a wealth of information and discussions. This forum has helped us immensely as we get our first lab up and running optimally!

Quick question, we recently bought a 9’ Summit Accucold Freezer to pre-chill our Ethanol and biomass before a cryo Etoh extraction.

The freezer we bought has a preset temperature range which only goes down to -35°. We run our extraction at -50° or below. Ideally we’d like the accucold freezer to be in a similar range to make our process more efficient.

In the accucold manual, it states “The min and max limits of the temperature range of your thermostat are preset and locked by us…for most freezers, the range is -25°C…To reset these ranges, either call us or find information on our website under Troubleshooting.”

Does anyone know how to programm the summit freezer to go colder?

thanks in advance

…and you’re not asking the manufacturer because?!?

Because they can’t/won’t give the sort of advice that members in here could offer. See above

Basically you replace the circuit on the refrigerator that tells the compressor when to shut off. So it continues running because nothing is telling it not to.

The limitations on the increase in cooling capacity depend on what kind of refrigerant is inside the system you’re running.

You are very unlikely to get those machines to -50C. You will almost certainly need to go to a cascade system running two compressors and two loops with different refrigerants to achieve any useable cooling power at -50C

When the manufacturer says “call or check our website” I usually start there. Having their tech tell you why it won’t work doesn’t have to mean you won’t try it, but it’s often a good data point to acquire before risking expensive equipment

you’re going to ruin it by over running it, or not achieve your desired temperature due to refrigerant limitations. it’s better to use the right equipment.
