Do you think an Edwards XdS 10 would make a
good roughing pump for my shortpath? 20L is the size.
If not make a recommendation!
I’m a fan of Leybold for roughing pumps. Sogevac and Trivac are both great for roughing.
@spdking usually makes the best suggestions for appropriately sized vacuum pumps!

Xds is more like for rotovaps. The soge will take more abusive vapors

I just grab an 8cfm chinese amazon rotary vane, or a used AC one from Craigslist/ebay. They’re $400 or something. Kick the crap out of it, run it to the ground. 
I prefer the used ones just so I’m not contributing to waste
