Questions about pressing CBG kief into hash

Hi everyone,

I recently got some CBG kief and a small manual press for testing, and I’d like to clarify a few things about pressing hash:

1. What’s the difference between heating the mold vs. pressing without heat?

2. Is it important to use parchment paper inside the mold? What’s the purpose of it, or is it unnecessary?

3. How long should I keep it under pressure?

4. After pressing, what’s the proper way to let it “rest” or cure?

5. What’s the best way to store the finished product to preserve quality?

Are there any other important details or best practices I should pay attention to when pressing CBG hash?

Thanks in advance for your advice

  1. Preference. I’ve done both, but I like heating my mold first. I find it acts as a pre-press and helps get your bag uniform.
  2. Never bothered with parchment in the mold, as long as you got rosin bags you should be fine. If you’re using rosin bags I would also recommend doubling them up.
  3. Until the flow of rosin stops.
  4. That is a topic of much debate and I recommend using the search bar to see what other folks have done.
  5. Keep away from light and heat.

Granted, my only experience is with THCa inputs, but the concept and execution should remain consistent.

If i want to press kief , why should i use them rosin bags?

Oh, duh, I’m sorry I misread. I thought you were asking about rosin. Yeah you’ll want parchment for your mold so that your hash doesn’t stick to the mold, and I still recommend getting your mold warm to help press everything together. How long to keep it pressed is a topic that is also discussed quite a bit, I’ve heard of folks doing things like putting hash wrapped in clingwrap in the heel of their shoe or just leaving it in a mold with weights on top. I’m less familiar with curing hash than I am with curing rosin, again I’d recommend using the search bar for that. As for storage, as well as light and heat DEFINITELY keep away from moisture.

Is your intention plain unadulterated cbg hash

Not very likely but ok

As for cbg kief it s more volumeus than cbg and even more than thc

It s often dryier and less sticky making pressing with a Jack necessary

Useing heat anywhere in your process has the chance of darkening your kief

Heat does make all cannabinoids and fats and waxes more liquid wich helps to get it more sticky >55C

The parchment is either used as wrapping or

Used to keep the pressing mold kleen

a few seconds under pressure should be enough pressing time for it to hold

Preserving the hasj i prefure in vacuumbags

No hard vacuum is needed yust a nice seal wich can be seen feu to the vacuum holding

The vacuum seal bag is also my go too

For long time storage

That makes sense. All I have had is “the white” strain, and the flower felt sandy. The trichromes seem skinnier and probably more numerous.

For long term storage, my uneducated guess is always a freezer.

Freezer is great for pakkages that need opening often

As for scale long storage I like the room temp vacuum more

I should also note that IF tepees are mixed in the resting at room temp gives a better overall scent dispersion than when frozen shortly after production it’s a process where the biomass present terps mixed with additional terps find a balance often better than right after production it’s Somewhat of a cure
