Purple weed altered?

my buddy says the last 4 strains he got from purp have all been dyed. He says he rubs them in a lil bit of water and then it turns the water slightly purple. Is there an explanation for this? Im not sure if theyre dyed cause i dont see why someone would do that.

Anthocyanin?

The purple dissolves in water because it’s a pigment. I doubt it’s dyed. I guess it could be dyed but let’s see th bud

There is such a thing as red sweet corn, but when you boil it, you get white corn and red water.

I saw really heavy purple weed that straight up bled onto a paper towel.

It was from NY, so yea someone probably did dye a small nug for a quick buck and sell it to the person who showed me, but its a rare occurrence.

I doubt people are dying full pounds

For reference, it was street weed all 4 times. I agree though if it is happening it cant be all that common. I wish i knew how to send a vid thru here

That does not look near as purple as the weed from NY that bled purple

Definitely just anthocyanins. It’s natural. Have you smoked any? Does it smoke fine? Does it smell fine? I’m sure dye would alter the scent in some way.

All the strains we run that finish purple stain the floor when we take down. Some of them will stain the paper when rolled after being cured.

I can squish royal purple juice out of fresh flower. You would swear it was grape juice.

Some strains have more pigment than others, a water test doesn’t necessarily determine if it’s a non natural pigment. Here are a couple pics of bubble test batches, you can see how beautiful the water gets.

Anthocyanin is pretty amazing, and it is water soluble and very easy to extract and recover from cannabis. This is one of the cool fucking experiments we did with like purple cabbage in chemistry… anthocyanin as a PH marker.

There is a reason shit like purple cabbage(and cannabis) have amazing medicinal properties… Many of the properties come from the 30+ anythocyanin flavonoids …

I’ve been doing lots and lots of research around the polyphenolic content of cannabis and I have a HUGE suspicion that our hard to achieve flavors and effects are a product of the polyphenolic content.

But yea purple weed turns things purple when it gets wet.
