Proper dilution of distillate to achieve 70%THC (state law)

So in the state I work in we have a maximum 70% THC law. My distillate is coming in at around 92%-87% THC. People in the area are using all kinds of stuff to dilute their final product for patient consumption to stay within the limits of a very stupid law. The company I am with is currently using MCT. I am trying to push them away from that and possibly into another safer/better for the patient way.

Anybody have any experience with this or have any advice for another thinning/dilution method? Thanks for any help or thoughts.

True Terpenes Viscosity is what you wana use, all natural odorless, flavorless terpenes. This is the best on the market at the moment, in my opinion. They have a % based cutting diagram on the bottle to achieve the perfect cut :ok_hand:

nothing safer then mct oil. PEG’s are worse and pg and vg wont form a stable mixture unless u really homogenize them or sonicate them. triacetate is similar to mct oil and other then those 3 nothing has good enough evidence to be considered “safer” or less risky

Anybody have any thoughts on using CBD distillate to dilute? I haven’t tried it yet but have been told the CBD distillate tastes unpleasent and will overpower with bad taste.

Is it possible in your process to run the product without dewaxing first and adjusting the parameters for a higher boil and intentionally fraction over components of the wax as well? This is possible in my own rig and when I combine the waxes (which also become refined themselves) with the target compund it dilutes the product and has some off taste a bit but not harsh. I found that combining the waxes slowed the discoloration I normally see when left in the open air to a crawl compared to the dewaxed much more potent style I prefer. Holding it under vacuum stops this color change so I just store it that way.

Is this sort of dilution technique feasible in your rig?

interesting idea! basically just do a really shitty distillation lol. YOU’RE TOO GOOD!

I’m interested in checking this stuff out! thanks for the post

That CBD distillate will crystallize on solution…

Dilute with the terp layer from sauce. Makes a tasty distalate mix.

I thought about that actually @Volkof told me so , how do people get CBD carts to not crystallize?

I know cbda will not form crystals. Upon heating it will decarb, and make cbd vapor.

It’s also important to note that(CBD) distillate does not taste very good.

I’ve heard that CBD crystalline will stay mixed using Triethyl Citrate but have yet to experiment.

I’ve done it before and it stayed stable in a cartridge for me, no issues.

Can you be more specific

I recently consulted with a PhD chemist who has years of experience building ecig formulations in regulated environments. They suggested, as is the mantra in the ecig world, lipids are dangerous to vaporize and inhale. Not truely understanding chemistry on a deep level, I mentioned that MCT is fractionated similarly to some of the extractions in our industry and asked wether this removed or changed the lipids making them safe.

Questions: Are medium chain triglycerides lipids unsafe to vaporize and inhale? Do some of the very popular extracts in our industry inherently contain similar lipid compounds?

They definitely contain similar triglycerides, and they are definitely not so good to vape…
Worse than McDonald’s? Couldn’t tell you. Different kind of beast…but you get the point…

MCT oil is just fractionally distilled from heavier triglycerides I believe, so they are probably not any different than before. Degumming actually breaks some of those apart.

My breathing sucks, and I largely feel that it is because of non-winterized extracts (well, that and a very early CMEP-OL model)

If I use the med with terps still intact within two days I develope a smokers hack and there is a persistent “tickle” in my chest always wanting to cough. I use heavy doses and this developed after a few years. It is what inspired me to learn to refine. The MSDS on terps warns against personal exposure. I have not noticed the same lung problem with waxes left in which I used to do a lot of. For me I definitely sensitized to especially alpha pinene. When I run my rig on first run I inevitably get sneeze fits lolz.

I don’t think that is really a safety of health issue though. I mean I don’t think it hurts me permanently. I have used a lot of medicine with waxes intact. It is not as pleasant to me but doubt at these exposure levels it could ever hurt me. I think it is more a comfort thing. I doubt I inhale more than about 100 micro grams at a time of actual compound and that is a pretty tiny amount.

Everything is definitely relative to experience. I agree that terpenes, naturally extracted or not, can be overwhelmingly harsh in quantity too. I can daball day and night if it is a winterized or distilled extract, whereas one dab of some typical tasty, but not dewaxed bho will have me wheezing for 48 hours.

Is cutting with d8 an option?
