Problem attaining crumble

Whats up yall

Been having some issues lately trying to make crumble. We are running a closed loop with 99.9 n tane and vacuum ovens.

We have made crumble in the past but seem to be struggling more as time goes on which is a real headache.

Our success previously came from purging for 24 hrs, then doing the taffy twisting technique and pulling under vac at 90f. Ot would usually dry out after a few attempts/less than 24hrs.

Recently it seems we are twisting and vaccing and twisting amd vaccing for days on end, amd the results are taking much longer. Its become quite the bottleneck in our process.

I was reading here today that you should taffy twist and pull at higher temps like 120-140 but all that did was melt it back down and got it bubblimg rapidly again.

Im just not sure where to go from here but ANY input is appreciated. Thanks!!

Start with what has changed. Strain, oven, Solvent, temps or humidity. If all else fails try whipping on a hotplate old-school style.

If you have extra terpy starting material it can be a bit harder to get crumble (that actually crumbles).
If you are confident that the hydrocarbons have been adequately purged, then turn off the vac. 120F, do the taffy pull and twist, then stick it back in with no vacuum. give it a couple hours, I would say 4, and if you dont see the extract change consistency and lighten up a bit colorwise, then twist it again and back into the oven, no vacuum.

Once your solvents are out, its all about allowing the cannabinoids and terpenes to do there thing, without the vacuum pulling on the more volatile terpenes, the extract will wax much faster.

Word that all makes sense. Our temps (ambient outdoor temps) are very hard to control.

One of the only things we can think of thats different is the possibility of water in the butane from use over time without ever being dessicated.

Our customer really prefers the expanded, fluffy, dry crumble for whatever reason. Twisting it and letting it sit with no vac gets close results but not exact. Do the terpenes really keep it from drying that much? It would be ideal if i could pull to -10 pr so and itd dry out there but it seems to just keep moving.

Sometimes whipping is the only way. Over open hot water, the steam evaporates and gets in and helps it to wax up

Terpenes can be thought of as another solvent, so similar to when there is more solvent in the extract still, more terpenes in it can change the consistency that you can obtain
