Pot Smokers Beware: Your Breath Could Get you in Trouble

“Thanks to Evan Darzi’s research, we now know that removing the hydrogen molecule in THC allows it to change colors and can be detected by instruments. This oxidation process is similar to how alcohol breathalyzers work and may be an accurate way of measuring cannabis intoxication.”

Nice click bait, Thc quinones are still a long shot at being able to determine actual intoxication, just like blood tests it can show possible use by concentration of immediate metabolites but it can’t determine intoxication, that’s for us to decide with further studies on short and long term use of cannabis to come up with a standard level of intoxication that we deem dangerous to public safety :ok_hand:

Yes this is just a proof of concept but it seems anything is probably better than the current swab testing being used where the mere presence of THC in saliva establishes impairment.

In several states that couldn’t agree on what that limit should be for alcohol the limit became zero. Just something to be wary of.

Keep pretending they care about impairment.

All they care about is persecuting a set number of people so the public believes the police protect them.

Dabbers’ll light up like a Xmas tree on a breathalyzer based on metabolites.

$10k to various entities for most alcohol-related DUII. Those dollars are relied on and must be replaced.

If they actually cared about impairment, they could do a video game type test to measure actual physical reaction times. No need for blood, breath, etc.

Iirc they did this a long time ago with transit drivers and maybe airline pilots? They were tested at the beginning of each shift.

Portable breathalyzers on average read about 40% too high.

We all know that tolerance, particularly among medical users, renders any sort of a curve of blood concentration vs impairment comparison dubious at best.

They will wave their hands in the air and declare the presumption of guilt over a specific level in order to ensure public safety… the same way if you drive with open container you get a DUI-type charge.
