Possible modification for an Ultrasonic Cleaner

Hi guys,

First time poster, perpetual reader of this incredible forum!

After going through just about every post I can here in regards to Ultrasonic Cleaners and horn type sonicators, I got myself a small (and cheap) 50w cleaner to help with my oil-in-water emulsions.

I’ve seen many people simply have the emulsion steeped in a zip lock bag, a small bottle suspended in the cleaner tub, machine their on horn for the face of the transducer and so on. I’m only really making emulsion concentrates up to 20-30ml as trial and error purposes for now.

I had a few ideas about epoxing a small stainless fitting or container on the face of the 1.3l tub to optimise the contact of the sound waves with the solution in small batches but I’m unsure if adding an extra fixed layer to the face of the transducer will change the resonance too much, and thus the overall effectiveness and performance of the cleaner itself.

Im likely never going to achieve any droplets iner than a microemulsion, but I’ll be happy if I can! What do you all think is a good way forward?

Thanks very much in advance,
Mitch.
