HELLO! So I. Have some older material that is pretty oxidized and I am running it with butane in my clothes loop extractor and it ends up being a dark color at the end every time. I’m also using a hefty amount of silica and bleaching clay, and then still ending up with the same result. Does anyone have any idea on how I can change the color of my final product after it’s ran can I take this dark oil and make it into golden oil or clear oil or yellow oil? Thank you very much.
Centrifuge the terps off
Like in the spinning thing?
take that dark oil dissolve in butane and pass though a bunch of CRY or use a more appropriate amount/mixture of crc powders from the start
Got it, you are turning old cured ‘oxidized’ material into golden/clear/yellow oil. This can be done. With your starting material, are you blasting buds only or the rest of the plant too? With your process, what temperatures are you running at during extraction? PCGextraction is right about dialing in your CRC, check out threads about CRC, great info waiting for you there. Then, you can separate your THCa, wash or blast that, and decarb. Do it right and you will have a jar of golden gas.
What’s your end product? If going into carts, you could distill.
to me that would be a very last resort, i would cold crash before distilling forsure
ok. then i second the centrifuge idea! there are lots of resources on here! let me know if you need a spoon.
The older it is the lower your yield here.
THC not only doesn’t precipitate out with your THCa, it also inhibits crystallization and reduces crystal size/growth.
Smaller crystals mean more surface area, which makes spinning off the supernatant more difficult…and washing more problematic.
Trust me on this…
Well, he already had the older material and a hydrocarbon set-up with CRC, but we don’t know if he has a good centrifuge or a still. Not a big fan of CRC for most runs, but it seems that this a good case for it. He asked about getting the clear. Something will have to give somewhere, in his case it will be yield percentage, but you could refine the byproduct with the D9 from the isolation of the a and blend it into the same run.
I find terp profile (and age of flower, as in this case) influence crystal size.
Is that a delta separations fuge? You were running big. I need to work for a better lab.
Pictures of what you’re working with are worth a thousand words.
If we know how dark your starting material is we can help a lot more than just vague descriptions. ![]()
