Pink bho?

Yo anyone seen thca turn pink. This rapidly crystallized and looked fine but two weeks later and it’s pink…

It’s common in material where a bit too much CRC powder was used

Weird cuz it took 2-3 weeks for it to happen what mechanism of crc oils do that? I’ve seen AA turn a slight red, but bright pink? This is CRX

It could be that it started right away and you were only able to notice it later on once it advanced to a certain point

Oxygen and surface area seem to cause this

Picture?

I have made pink and purple “shatter” from thca before. It was well before crc was even a thing.

I would press thca in parchment on heat. The amount of time dictated color. I could do clear, various shades of pink, purple, dark purple.

I see this if I cold crash THCa after running fresh frozen (with no media), pour off the terps and leave the cold crash bloom undisturbed for a few weeks. Not exactly sure what’s happening. Last time it happened I put the car in the ove. At 160F for a couple hours and the pink portion turned back yellow. It’s been a couple weeks since then and that jar is starting to turn pink again.

It also has a distinct smell that isnt true to the strains profile but the terpene portion seems unaffected

How long would stay that color before it turned yellow or brown?

Honestly the surprising thing that I noticed was how slow it got darker. I expected it to be fairly quick but I left a few grams of the pink stuff on my table for months. It slowly turned purple being left completely open to atmosphere.

I called it “controlled oxidization”

THC quinone or how ever it is spelled?

Wish I had analytics but those test were me just fucking around for fun. You could also call it a controlled decarb. And that may be the answer as to why it darkens at close tot he same rate as shatter left out on a table. The remaining acid groups working as anti ox

If I had to guess I’d say it’s from low ph from over crc

Are we sure there’s no CBD in there causing pink? I know this is about BHO but I have found something interesting in my learnings:

I see pink quite a bit in my heads from D8 production, and I have a hunch that it is the CBD quinones causing the pink because it definitely diminishes to water clear throughout the course of the run which I believe is caused by the acidified adsorbents in the boiling flask converting the residual CBD into THC. I will be testing all of my fractions in house to try and isolate the cause of the pink here real soon.

When I dab diamonds in my puffco and don’t clean it they turn from clear to purple. Also bad diamond decarb sops will yield a purple end product. Me thinks they may all be linked. :pinched_fingers:

What type of filtration are you using? I’ve seen this with the tail end of a batch stuck in w1 and ultra clear after it was finally pushed through. Assumed it was from the extended residency time as the rest of the run was golden.
