pH meter in ethanol

Heyo,

I know that ethanol can test a bit acidic.

Are there any issues testing alcohol with a pH meter? When I’m swinging the pH in an LLE with citric acid and baking soda, will my pH meter test accurately? Do I need to use strips instead? Anything I should be aware of?

I’ve just been testing with strips and doing my best to do the mole calculations. But figure I’d verify my work a bit more.

I’ve wondered the same thing, since the glass electrode things are permeable to protons, not water I think (???) they would be ok with EtOH? I’d check first with pH strips just to be sure

Yeah I called a few companies and their teks seemed dumbfounded that I would even try to attempt such a thing.

@QGA please read post and comment
For we don t know :fist_left:

Lol no idea. I think they work a bunch with brewing and wine industries or solutions much higher in water content.

But it’s a labratory pH meter. Says right on the box lol. You’d think they would know what would be appropriate for a labratory.
