Petroleum ether

Has anyone used petroleum ether for extraction purposes? Can anyone give me a reason why to or not use it?

Aside from the obvious explosion hazard relative to alkanes that work just as well…?

Oops saw that u said pet ether, the reason it isnt used is because it’s hard to evaporate when the solution becomes saturated. Petroleum ether is just a fraction from crude oil, it’s made up of lots of different kinds of molecules with similar boiling points.

Petroleum ether is a wonderful solvent, has excellent characteristics for solubilizing cannabinoids and is selective. The problem with pet ether is that it is highly flammable and explosive. Out of safety considerations I would stay away

It also has a noticable gasoline odor in very low concentrations similar to heptane.
