Personal Testing Machines

hey guys, my company is looking to get a testing device that we can use to test the THC potency (not full spectrum tests) of our finished edibles for our own knowledge. ive looked at a few options such as the T Check and the MyDX 2.0 but im looking for a device that can test finished products not just the oil and emulsions. does anybody have any recommendations? looking for under $1,000.

Depending on how accurate you need it to be, apparently you can use TLC for edibles Analysis of tetrahydrocannabinol derivative from cannabis-infused chocolate by QuEChERS-thin layer chromatography-desorption electrospray ionization mass spectrometry - PubMed

Can you clarify the accuracy you’d like? I only ask because with edibles you’ll want to know how tight your tolerances are (like ±1% THC or ±.1%THC).

There was a machine at Indo Expo 2-3 years ago that was $1,000 tabletop setup, but it’s variance was ±3-4% (I couldn’t think of how that was useful). Hopefully there’s gotta be something effective now and prices are hopefully lower today.

we are looking for a device that can measure in MG not in %

looking for +/- 1%, just something to do a quick test before we spend the money to send it out for a full panel test

That is done by math not the machine. A result in mg can be converted to % easily.

i understand that, im just looking for something digital rather than analog

All analytical testing devices to my knowledge are analogue, the signal intensity is then turned into a digital signal by a computer, in the case of TLC the computer will be a pocket calculator

I just wanted to say those two devices you posted in the beginning are all I am seeing. There are solutions out there for home setups but it all looks like “20% 19% 18% 17%
” liquid drop tests on paper.

I thought this would be an easier solution to just go search for, but all I see are the phone app devices, the liquid dropper tests, and then it jumps into the $5-10k category for ‘commercial startups’.

See the Commercial In-House Testing Equipment Suppliers section of this artcile halfway down, maybe the commercial companies they mention have something I missed that’s at your price mark. Best of luck!

You are asking for a lot at $1000.

My best suggestion would be to look for an sri GC used on ebay and get it dialed in for your needs.

I highly doubt you will find an instrument that does potency testing for $1000. A lot of companies that offer potency testing instrumentation for a cheap price range should be used for qualitative purposes only and not quantitative due to the large uncertainty values associated with it. Expect to pay in the range of 15K for old/used HPLCs or +30K for newer HPLC models. HPLC is the route to go for quantitative analysis.

They had some auctions for hplcs, and a couple of other testing apparatuses for cheap:

The cheapest solution that actually works is the SRI 310MM GC.
Its $10810 plus shipping and has very low operating cost ( 15 cents a sample ).
It tests for cannabinoid potency, terpenes and residual solvents.
See the srigc.com website.

GC’s are tough for testing finished edibles.

Do you say that because it requires more sample prep to get rid of the sugars etc.
What sample prep do you employ now.
