Pentane recrystallization

Thanks, hella useful info. I’ll just try this with a gravity filter funnel, and leave my cmep functioning as a small table for now!

sounds like you have a CLS. does you run CRC?
do you have a scintered disk or anywhere you can stick a filter paper/coffee filter?

bet you can figure out how to pull a vac and filter without pulling pentane through a pump if you think about it for a sec.

if you have N2 you could push it through the filter…

I do have a sintered disk, personally do passive recovery just for the sake of peace and quiet. So no vacuum equipment involved, why I don’t use my cmep!

Deff got N2! Sounds like just letting the pentane run through a filter/sieve will do the trick though, no need to get cls involved.

You know butane? 4 carbons?
Pentane has 5. It’s a little tamer, but I’ve heard of more labs setting themselves on fire with pentane than butane.

One reason for using your cls, is so you don’t set yourself on fire.

You can used an old tank/vessel thats pulled to vac as your “pump” and not worry about the risk of the vapors

Oh that’s perfect, thanks! Would be nice to at least use this Buchner once

Does this mean you’re not vacuuming down your material column or collection before every run?

You ought be

Yup! Just regular vac pump for that, didn’t wanna use that for Buchner in case it sucked in any fumes and combusted. Didn’t think of just pullin vac on an empty vessel and attaching that to Buchner though.

Bother.
Tried leading you there…

We’re talking about your cls with a vacuumed collection and a filter between it and the column;

You could use your CMEP to pull that vac too. Without pulling anything but air through it.

…AND using an enclosed buchner, which CRC => collection is equivalent to in most systems, IS safer…if you got one lying around doing noting atm.

Do at it -20C and you’ll be fine

I gotcha, was just going to use pour through method on the Büchner funnel with a small bottle of pentane I got for a test run. Smallest tube on the cls is a 6x48, so seems like overkill for maybe a couple ozs of THCa.

Thanks a bunch though, hadn’t remotely considered just using the cls for this on a larger scale. Suppose at that point you just break down and deep clean your setup so you don’t get any pentane into your recovery tank?

No CRC?

If this works for you, what would your batch size be.

Think about a closed system to perform that in. And use as a miner…

If you’re running that cls every day, you need a new set of vessels. If you’re running it once a month, maybe use it for both…

I can dedicate it for a bit for some R&D on this.

Got a 3x12 crc column with a sintered disk. I could load my thca in there, load pentane into material column, then gradually pull it through with a pre vacuumed collection pot. Would this allow the pentane long enough passing through the diamonds to get saturated?

Assuming you’ve got a valve, that setup is easily throttled to achieve whatever flow rate you need.

Of course! Thanks for all the help bro, I’ll save ya a nice facet when I get em goin!

I did mine with a bunch of thca powder /sugar from the centrifuge today. Did a 1 to 2 ratio. 98.33 thca to pentane. I used a 6x6 diamond miner for this. Will see how it looks tmrw. I’ll add seeds soon when I get saturation right and clock in its weight.

At 1:2 T:P you got about 1.5 units of solvent to go before you start to see dramatic growth

you could monitor (temp &) weight and drop seeds till they stop vanishing to determine where you are on the saturation curve…

…otherwise you can easily end up in the precipitation zone before you have any solid indicator

These are some stones I made.
Thanks for all of you that shared information to get me to this point in my process. Ya’ll are the best keep the information flowing.

Start weight 500g HCE 2:1 ratio with pentane.
Its been sitting for a week or so.
