Outdoor, climate controlled greenhouse, indoors

I’ve heard rumors about outdoor in ideal climates or climate controlled greenhouse producing better quality buds then indoor . Supposedly because the natural sunlight is superior to any grow lights ? Anyone no if there’s any truth to this ?

Not to say we don’t love our Light Dep Nexus but the regular outdoor greenhouses produce some killer flower this year. We had one that hit big with Military Chocolate (31%), one with Double Dos (28.2%) and another with White Gold (28.3%). The one thing we modified that can also be ordered as part of the entire greenhouse package was a “bug corridor” In previous years the fan louvers at either end were basically doorways for bugs and pests. After building out corridors the pest population disappeared. We have large propane overhead Modine 350,000 BTU heaters in ours so with a September harvest there is time to move pre-vegged plants in to flower (October/November) before the sun just can’t do the work in the winter.

We were only at 50% production this year while a new team came into clean up the mess of the past several years. They absolutely nailed it and next Spring we plant all 6.

Was planning on going the greenhouse route next year. Seems like if u can controll climate enough it’s the way to go.

Ours have a Link4 controller that opens and closes the louvers and turns on the overhead circulation fans/exhaust fans with the ups and downs in both RH and Temp.

What link 4 contoller? The iponic 624 is trash

Thrip screens are necessity. They get sucked in and are like “We’ve reached Nirvana”!
I love all the flowers. Unique traits seem to be unveiled in all environmental conditions.

I couldn’t agree more, and their customer service is trash also. After replacing a few of the screens and most of the switches we are replacing with Wadsworth as it comes up. That is what came stock with the Nexus and we haven’t had any problems with it for 6 years

Edit: these are iGrow 800 series but garbage none the less

Outdoors and deps for extracts. Indoor for smokable flower.

Not saying I wouldn’t extract indoor, just think the scale you can do outdoor at and price per lb of material for outdoor/deps, makes more sense Imo. People can’t tell the difference in extracts (some may say they can, but I really doubt them). Flower, you can’t say the same thing, outdoor is easily distinguishable (deps a little harder if done right, but still a noticeable difference ime)

My 2cents.

That makes sense , basically how I do it now. But I hear if you can control ur temp swings and climate in ur greenhouse u might be able to get as good our better quality in the green house as apposed to outdoor . Planning on setting up a greenhouse with geo thermal heating and cooling along with a wood boiler and heat pump as back up. Gonna make the north wall solid, and possibly gonna make it the whole greenhouse dug in about 4 ft. Hoping to be able to achieve a quality comparable to indoors and be able to grow for 9 months out of the year in maine . Anyone think this is a reasonable goal or am I dreaming?

I really enjoy all of them if done properly in the right environment. The problem with outdoor / light dep is dust , dirt , debris , and fire smoke . We live at 5000 elevation and the season is rough and outdoor generally comes out shitty unless you have a 7-8 week early finishing strain. If you harvest light dep anytime in september it comes out amazing . The UV index is so high the flowers get so much resin and the buds get so dense and fat. The terp profile on the same clones always comes out slightly different compared to the indoor . If you have a good end of the season the open air basic light dep hoop house crush it and come out just like the indoor in my environment

Thanks for the knowledge. I was thinking of light dep to for some of my outdoor beds that I won’t beable to afford to put a greenhouses on , after that info think I’m definitely gonna invest in a bunch of light dep set ups

Look into it. You have you work cut out for you in Maine…

Hope you have a chunk of money to throw at it.

You might have humidity issues up there not sure . Only reason we get away with it is cause of the super low humidity . We also plant right into the ground because our whole greenhouse is good amended soil . You would need ventilation at night maybe even dehums too .

He lives even further north than me. And it’s bound to be wayyyy wetter since he is on the east coast.

@44northorganicfarms i looked into a good set up for where I’m at and it would have cost me about 30k for what I wanted. (And I already have the Dehus, so that wasn’t in my price) That’s just materials, I would have set it all up.

If you planned it right you could probably get away with 1 big well timed crop . Planted and harvested on prefect times of the year with the best weather. Like plant teens june 1rst then snap into flower july 1 and harvest early september . Would just have to plan everything around the moisture problems and lots of plant therapy lol
