Tell your lab rats to get back to work making CBD isolate! Just joking, of course. We have seen a huge shift from cannabis to things like 7-OH. How have you been using equipment for things other than cannabis extraction?
We mix 25% coffee grounds and 75% room temp water for 24 hours to make cold press coffee by 20 micron vacuum filtration. We’ve tried every cold brew type and this is our favorite.
We used a deep freezer to freeze distill apple wine. It concentrated the good stuff and the bad and was a hangover in a bottle. We use the ultrasonic to clean the wife’s wine glasses. I’ve always wanted to squish hops in a rosin press.
What fun things do you use your lab equipment for when not paying the bills?

I find other ways to monitize it! Can be as easy as extracting “absolutes” of fragrent botanicals for perfumery or whatever lots can be done with a full lab, while remaining legal and compliant. Without having to touch cannabis.
My favorite thing though, and i only do this for gear thats damaged and unusable on the production line is turn things into custom 3D printed fishtanks. Like here is a chemtek sightglass that got chipped and wouldnt hold vacuum, instead of just throwing it away i turned it into a custom desk fishtank, its not 100% complete ive been in europe for essentially the last 2 years on and off so my time to spend playing around with fun designs is limited.

Ive done this so far with a chipped 50L boiling flask and a 6x48" glass chromatography column aswell, always fully custom bespoke filter designs with biowheels, integrated pumps, integrated heaters etc etc. Someday soon when i have the time ill finish these all up. I use a DCM vapor amoothing process to seal the surfaces of the part and make the 3D printed componets complete water tight, which makes this possible and practical(not necessarily the dcm part lmao), built a custom vapor chamber out of triclamp parts to acomplish this in way that is safeish and repeatable/consistent.
I have a bunch of other gear i wana eventually do this with, i think its fun and it makes me happy in some weird way lol
