I use 99% rubbing…acetone gets colder. It even changes the stability of slabs as the terpenes are higher. Acetone and dry ice never gets that slushy phase…unless there is water in it if you have used it a couple times.

It’s 91% rubbing alcohol, is that still ok when gets like thick ice cream?

My denatured alcohol doesn’t do that is that bc it’s 100?

sounds like you may have picked up more water in your Iso somewhere along the way. denatured ethanol is sold at both 190 & 200proof. the 200proof becomes 190proof real quick here in Oregon most of the year.

Idk I just packed as much dry ice as I could fit and once gone did again, after couple times the stuff thick on top looks like, I keep in freezer

i use 99% the 90% will cause problems for sure. denatured works really good as well.

Have tried using acetone in the jacket with dry ice acetone gets to about -130 to -150 depending on your environment and it gets colder way faster than isopropal does. Just only need to use 1-2 12oz bottles for a 1-2lb column. Its also reusable and doesnt have water in it like iso and never slushes up after long use stay just as liquidy as the day you bought it. Just a suggestion you should give it a go!

I thought I heard you say you were doing a lab build and I was wondering if you or anyone have some ways to make this look better for compliance issues? The fire inspectors have to be cool with everything here in CO. I’m not sure if they are cool with me pouring out a pound of solvent for most of it to be evaporated before it’s in the oven. Our freezer is explosion proof but it still seems like a lot of solvent evaporating to atmosphere outside of the booth. Also is anyone having success using less solvent, like 5:1?

What would be the best way to get the saturation levels right before setting it into the diamond miners and then ovens, like after cryo take them back to the booth and set them on a table for the time it takes for them to get supersaturated, then place into a pressure vessel. Are you guys pouring your collection vessels out in the booth with that much solvent left in it? How much solvent is evaporated from when you pour in the jars until you take them out of the cryo?

Dimond miners can be vented in an explosion proof fume hood, or in your extraction booth with the fans running. If your in an actual Dimond miner and you torqued all the seals correctly you won’t have any issues .

Cool thanks, so all the solvent that’s evaporating is staying in the diamond miner, are you guys doing your cold crash in the miner? Anyone bypassing the jars with success?

If the solvent that was evaporating was staying in the miner then there would be no reduction in the solvent level. It has to be released from the vessel to reduce the amount of solvent and hence increase the saturation of the solution. However when doing this the solvent can be recovered passively or actively rather than released into your lab/environment

If you don’t vent the pressure from the miner there will be no evaporation. Just like your bic lighter doesn’t evaporate.

controlled evaporation rates, imagine that…

Okay yeah I figured there’d be a few burps in the beginning, doing it with the miner and under a hood is a solid approach!

You will want to remove pressure every day. Do this in a smooth gradient, without disturbing the contents too much. This means a very slow gas bleed. Continue burping a small amount of gas everyday . When there isn’t really any more pressure building You can harvest your dimonds.

It does not evap in the freezer been tasting a run for over 2 weeks. It’s at the same level. Now, when you pull out of the freezer you could leave under a evac hood or whatnot. You have to spill a decent amount of solvent at once to raise to a dangerous zone. If you’re moving enough air in the lab, it shouldn’t be a issue.

I can’t tell you guys how much I appreciate ALL of the info! I had a misunderstanding on how the diamond miners operated, this all helps clear so much up to get a grasp on things, can’t wait until I can give you guys data back! That is great @Mastercoolkeif that was something I was worried about, thanks again this info is exactly what I’m looking for!
