Offical HydroBuddy thread

I’m in @danielfp Send the heat!

We recommended Dr. Fernandez as a speaker for the Humic Product Trade Association (HPTA) global meeting next year. The idea of a collaboration with our CSO gets me excited to learn.

After a lot of consideration I believe we will end up going with a Patreon for the scienceinhydroponics youtube channel instead of a newsletter or a new website. That way we can tie the videos that are released in that channel with more in-depth content and content that tackles the same topics but is specific to cannabis.

This also makes it so we don’t need to focus on maintaining a website and dealing with support but can actually focus just on content creation. We will give this a try at 5 USD/month in the near future and see if it is a good fit. Thanks to @Ralf for bringing this possibility to my attention earlier in the thread.

I wanted to share a blog post I wrote today about how to create you own hypochlorous acid cleaning product using bleach:

I hope you find it useful! Let me know if you have any comments.

Great article Daniel.

Weeks ago i searched documetantation.
I saw a patent for more higher concetration, what is you opinion, i think more unstable solution.

Other is posible to use hexametaphosphate sodium, is right for clean duct than Sodium tripolyphosphate?

And other questions is the same to use hiploclorate calcium than hiploclorate acid for clean solutions?

Excusame for ask some questions but your knowlodge great

I released a new video today on pyrethrins. I though you guys might like it:

I just released a new video on how nutrient uptake affects pH. I hope you enjoy it!

Hi @danielfp. I was wondering if you would give me a consult in how to achieve higher brix and better flavor using salts. I would like to optimize my ratios and profiles. I’m open to any inputs but don’t want to switch to full organic. Your assistance would be appreciated. I tried to dm you but I guess I don’t have that privilege.

Thanks for writing! I did get your DM, I have replied there.

So I had to record and release the last video again, as I screwed up all the values in one table :man_facepalming: . This video now has all the values corrected! If you watched the last one please make sure to watch again to support the channel. The content is hopefully clearer as well!

Part two of my video on how uptake affects pH is now out How does nutrient uptake affect media pH? - Part two - YouTube

Thought I’d ask here since I can’t figure it out myself, I used to use Jacks before and my pH settled at 5.8 and was stable.
Now the pH doesn’t come down to 5.8 and I have to use pH down and it keeps on drifiting up.

I run a DTW.

Any clues why that is happening?

I was looking to DiY my own hydro salt recipe as I don’t want to go back to adjusting pH before watering and I can’t automate it yet…any suggestions?
Ammonium Phosphate seems like the only acidic compound, anyone used Calcium acetate?

The problem might be your water source being hard or carbonates in your nutrients. Whenever carbonates are present they will generate carbonic acid in solution after the pH is set, that carbonic acid will then react with water, create CO2 and off gas, which will increase the pH with time (causing a drift). This is in the absence of plants.

Monoammonium phosphate and monopotassium phosphate are both acidic. PeaKacid is another fertilizer salt that is even more acidic. You also have mineral acids you can add to nutrients to make them more acidic if needed (phosphoric, nitric, sulfuric, etc).

Calcium acetate can be used but it has many caveats. Solutions made with it need proper preservatives for it and it can cause biofilm buildup on your lines if you use too much. It will also cause the pH in your media to increase substantially due to acetate uptake by the plants.

Thanks for replying Daniel!

I have read that one way to create a pH stable solution is to pH down with sulfuric acid and then add potassium carbonate to get it back.

Will that work?

I found this thread months ago, just joined largely due to it.
Did a patreon, website, or newsletter idea ever take, for @danielfp?

Sadly a lot of work things came up and I was never able to have the time to get to that project. I actually didn’t have much time to do anything on my blog or youtube during the past year. We’ll see how things look this year!
